Tag limit quantity increase?

I just found out about the tag/category limit (no more than a total of 12 for inclusion in “global tags”). Sure sorry to hear about this. I just wanted to plead for an increase in that number, like maybe up to 20 or 25. It seems unnecessarily confining to me.
For example, see http://writingreadingandreflections.wordpress.com/2008/06/29/famous-women-youve-never-heard-of-2/ for a good number of tags, but most, if not all, I think, are entirely justified. I guess I’ll need to go back and delete some, but even at that, I’m sure I’d still exceed the limit. There’s a few things I can drop, but because of the variety of topics, well, I need a lot of tags. Especially when multiple tags are needed for similar or synonymous terms such as “African-American history” and “Black history” for example. Or for a unique name that is an ongoing series on my blog, (like “Famous Women You’ve Never Heard Of”) and so on.
Just wanted petition for this. Thanks.

The limits were imposed as I understand it, due to tag spamming. Some were using the same 80 or 100 tags on every post no matter whether they were relevant or not. I have personally seen blogs here with well over 100 tags on a single post. I’ve seen posts where the list of tags is longer than the post itself. This ends up polluting the global tags pages and you end up with posts on the adult entertainment industry in the pottery and knitting tags pages.
Sadly, there are those out there that will abuse the system and it ends up putting limitations on those that do not abuse things.
