Tag question

  Hey there. I was reading a few forums posts + FAQ but I wanted to cofirm something about tags:

  According to the FAQ:

  Is there a limit to the number of tags I can have?
  No.

  Now is that out of date? Or is it refering to the total number of tags in your entire blog? Because based on forum answers given, having more than 12 is no good and will penalize you in wordpress listings..

  So can I get that confirmed: When doing tags, have no more than 12 right?… (Not including how many categories you have right?)Categories are on their own and you can have 2-3 (or more?) per blog post right?

  Any help for my confusion will be appreciated!! Thanks :)

  can we get a link to the faq’s where you saw what you did in the faq’s? the no part?

  You are technically unlimited. But it’s a good idea to obey the 12 tags limit. I’m not sure about categories.

  that’s referring to the total number of tags on your entire blog.

  if you tag the daylights out of your posts, you’re likely to be removed from the tagging system.

  keeping it under 12 you’re more likely to be seen on the front page of wordpress is my understanding as well.

  Cool cool….. thanks guys… so I will try and limit it now to 12 or less + one category (I guess you can have more but I personally have one per blog..)

  Yeah, I have been doing a bit of a tag frenzy in my previous posts ;D… ah well live and learn!!

  I’ll try to explain the difference and when to use which.
  Think if you’re a techy blog talking about computers, software, etc.

  If you’re talking about software on a post,
  Software could be your category.

  Let’s say you’re talking about Microsoft’s Excel on that day’s software post.
  Your tags could be:

  Excel, Microsoft, spreadsheets

  Tags are for words you may use less often, categories are for words you would use often.
