Tag renaming difficulties

  I want to change every instance of an already-used tag to a different tag name. I click on the tag under Posts/Tags, edit its name, and click “Update.” I am returned to the tags screen, and a message appears saying “Item not updated.” Is this a bug, or am I somehow doing something wrong?
