Tag Surfer & Firefox issue
-
I sent this as a feedback last week, but i have had no response yet.
I am running Firefox 2.0.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.4.8, and Firefox has stopped liking the Tag Surfer (hereafter referred to as TS, because i’m lazy). When i go to the TS page, Firefox acts as though it is loading content, and sometimes i even get a brief flash of the content, but i end up with an empty white box where everyone’s posts should be. The rest of the page loads just fine (all the toolbars, etc.), so i’m wondering if there’s a post listed in my TS that Firefox can’t deal with properly. This started happening maybe a week to 10 days ago; before that, everything was fine.
Safari opens the TS page perfectly. Has anyone else had any experience like this? Do i need to just wait until whatever post Firefox doesn’t like stops showing up in the TS?
Thanks!

G’Day
I use a firefox 2.0.0.1 browser and my operating susyem is Windows XP media center edition. I do not experience the “tag surfer” problem you describe. Perhaps drmike has a suggestion to make that will be helpful. -

Maybe it’s because you are on dial-up service. I’m on high speed and I just checked mine again and it works fine.

I am using FF 2.0.0.1 on XP Pro – no problem. IE 6.0.2900 works fine too.
Which tags have you got? I would suspect one of the posts has a large image or other element that causes FF, in reading the CSS, to display incorrectly. Try opening Safari, removing one tag at a time and then re-loading after each one in FF. Once you get to the one causing the problem it should then display correctly.
You can then try restoring it in a few days once the offending post has gone. Of course, you could also just use safari for a few days.
If this does not work I am out of ideas. -

My money is on a Youtube or youtube associated tag. All those videos loading into one window is not a good thing. I’ve had that issue in the past.
-
Well, the offending tag is “knitting”, and the only thing i see on there that is vaguely out of the ordinary is, you guessed it, a YouTube video. There’s only one, though, and i can view the post just fine by itself (on its blog site, not on the TS page).
The blogger notes the following:
Seeing as this is such a dull and pictureless post, I shall direct you to this YouTube video I was sent to by Debbie. (I tried embedding the video here, but my credit with the WordPress guys doesn’t extend that far). Enjoy! It’s a good thing we have a slow internet connection, or I’d spend all my time watching other people’s cats. Thank you Debbie, it cheered me up.
ETA: Trying embedding this again.
[YouTube window immediately below this]The above phrase, “YouTube video”, is also a link to the same video. I wonder if the user’s problem with embedding the video might have anything to do with FF not being able to deal with it in TS? I’m just shooting in the dark here.
-
I was bored, so i decided to click on TS in FF again (what the heck, right?). It loaded properly! And the post with the YouTube embed is still there.
The mystery remains…

judyb12,
The video may have dropped below some of the side bars. Glad it works now, though. -

gol-freakin-darnit it’s gone again. And there’s no YouTube video either this time. Could it be the number of images, some of which are linked to Flickr? I’m getting tired of this.
-
It might be but I don’t think flickr would be loading anything funkie. I know having a number of youtubes and other videos load always craps out my laptop and maxes out the browser.
And that’s with 480megs in there with 32 on video.
-
Perhaps it’s the addition of the google map thingee in your sidebar that’s doing this.
What do you thing drmike could that be a factor?
I don’t know if judi is still using a safari browser but BTW and FWIW judy’s Regulus theme blog looks fine to me. I’m using a firefox 2.0.0.1 browser.

Doubt it as Judy’s on the backend and the widgets don’t come into play.
I can’t think of anything to check this against except for contacting staff via feedback. There may be something going on with a specific post.

It’s the images. I changed my FF prefs to stop automatically loading images, and TS worked correctly. So, i decided to take out one category tag (i only had 2), and the page loaded with pictures.
So annoying

I’ve been having the same problems with FF 1.5.0 & OS X 10.4.4 . The tag surfer will open ok in Safari so I’ve been playing with it a bit. At first I thought it was a file size issue, an embeded youtube video, caching, etc… but none of these seem to be the problem. The problem is intermittent depending on the contents of the TS.
Today there is a post with the nature category that has this link –> http://picasa.google.com/blogger/ attached to the picasa logo. Could this be the cause? Picasa is not compatible with OS X and perhaps embedding this link is trying to load something that causes FF to hang. I don’t want to point fingers so I won’t post the particular blog with this link but if any here are able to test this out I’ll be happy to give it up.
This is the only thing I can see in the TS that is not plain text or an image. The Snap preview popup shows content (“Publish photos to any Blogger blog using Google Picasa”…) on that page but clicking on the icon opens to an error 404 – page not found.

I often have the same problem – I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Macos 10.4.9. Just logged in on Safari following comments posted here, and it worked perfectly. There was one post with ~20 embedded videos, so I’ve removed the associated tag for the time being and it now works fine in Firefox too. It seems like Firefox doesn’t start drawing the content while it’s still downloading. Is there any way of limiting the number of posts shown?
