tag test

    This is a test to see if the <del> tag name can be displayed, as the del element within angle brackets, in a support forum post and in its title.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Not so much apparently.

    Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li.
    You can also put code in between backtick ( ` ) characters.

    @supernovia,

    Not so much apparently.

    I’m not sure what you mean, because the <del> tag name does display in the content of the original post above, though it failed to display in the title, evidently having been stripped.

    The reason I did this test was to compare the results here to those at the Forums Help site, where such tags will display in a post if entered in visual mode as <HTML element>, but not in comments. In comments you have to use the corresponding HTML version:
    <del> tag.

    The HTML version didn’t show in the code box above. I’ll try again:

    With the angle brackets converted to HTML, <del> would be <del>.

    Failed again. Anyway, the point is that the HTML version of a tag will work in comments on the Forums Help site, without the code tag.

    I just remembered, also, that I’d been informed in a recent Help Forums topic that angle brackets do not display within a code tag. I found that was true in Help Forums posts and comments. Now I will test it here:
    <del> tag and <s> tag

  • The forums help site is a blog, essentially, with the p2 theme and its features. That will be different from the forums since they have different rules.

  • If you need to use del tags here, let me know whether you’re trying to get them to render in a forum comment or whether you’re having trouble including them in a code block.

    @supernovia,

    Yes, I understand that.

    If you need to use del tags here, let me know…

    Thanks. I’m unable to display the HTML code of a <del> tag, here, in a code block. However, I’ve just remembered that I’ve had this problem for years here in the support forums, with for example spacer codes. What I normally do is put a space between each character in the code, like so:
    & l t ; del & g t ;
    or
    & n b s p ; < br/ >
    in order to have the code display in a support forum post, but then I would explain that in order to use that code you’d have to remove the spaces. The other thing is that the code box becomes unnecessary (I think) with the spaces added, but I’ll still use the code box just to identify it as code.

    Tests:

    1. Attempt to show the above spacer code without using a code box and without adding spaces between the characters.

    2. Attempt to show the above spacer code using a code box, but without adding spaces between the characters.
    &nbsp;<br/>

    What I’ve referred to as a spacer code above might perhaps more accurately by called a “force a new line” HTML code. It seems to be combination of an spacer entity and a line break tag. This code was suggested to me years ago by WordPress.com staff. I don’t know if it’s still valid, though I’ve used it on my primary site fairly recently.

  • Okay. I’ll note this and let you keep testing here — let me know if you need anything.

    let me know if you need anything.

    Thanks. I did that above, but you might have missed it. So is there a known reason that the HTML version of the <del> tag can’t be displayed in a code box here?

  • It wasn’t, but I noted that for you.

    Ah, it was I who misunderstood! Thanks again. < : )
