    Hello,
So the tagline doesn’t show in this theme. The tagline does show in the settings page. Please help.

which tag line are you talking about

  • Unknown's avatar

and your log is in which language?

Thanks for the swift response. The tagline – if I get it right – is the subtitle of the blog page, namely, the short text in smaller letters that should appear below the main title. The theme demo does show such a subtitle.
The blog is in Hebrew. I use the regualr English interface for managing it.
    Thanks.

I think the theme which you use does not display a tagline even if it shows in settings(many themes have this issue), you need to edit CSS and for that you need to upgrade your account….

    Hope i ansewerd you :-)

Yes it does, in an unexpected but still helpful way.
CSS is way beyond my envlope at this stage. Will have to change themes.
Odd, though, why Big Brother and those other thmes show a subtitle in the theme menu…
    Thanks and happy holidays,

  • Hi alicht2014 – Big Brother should display the tagline, as you can see in the demo, where the tagline is “A pleasant-to-read, customizable theme designed for large organizations and government.”

    https://bigbrotherdemo.wordpress.com

The tagline is set under Settings > General.

If you’d like to reset your site to use Big Brother I’d be glad to have a look at why the tagline may not be appearing.

    Hi KathrynWP,
I am doing my first baby steps with WP.
Having now reviewed several free themes, it appears that quite a few have serious problems with displaying Hebrew. Some don’t show it at all. This seems to be the case with Big Brother and Plane. Other themes use a font that for Hebrew comes out really ugly – a matter of taste, obviously.
I may be settling for Twenty Ten, which seems the least problematic.
    Many thanks!

    One more thing, KathrynWP,
A colleague has been using the them NotesIL – a very minimal but functional theme. Where/how can I get it?
    Thanks.

  • If there are issues with RTL languages and certain theme features, I would be very glad to help get those fixed up! Our themes should all be RTL-ready, but sometimes things get missed during development and we need to fix them later.

Was the issue with Plane that the tagline was not displaying? I will test both Big Brother and Plane with Hebrew settings and have a look.

Twenty Ten is an older theme that is not responsive (does not adapt to mobile devices), so you may want to try a newer theme instead, like Twenty Eleven, which is similar to Twenty Ten but responsive.

With Plane the issue was not with the tagline [that was the issue with Big Brother] but rather that the content of posts didn’t show.

Thanks for the tip re: Twenty Ten. I’ll try Twenty Eleven. I am an academic so am looking for a quite, minimal design for commenting on current issues.

  • Thanks for the heads-up about Plane, I’ll investigate that as well.

If you’re looking for a good minimalist theme, you might also want to take a look at Twenty Twelve.

  • About Big Brother:

I tested your site title and tagline on a test site, with no custom header. I set the site’s language settings to Hebrew under Settings > General.

I’m seeing the tagline displayed correctly, as you can see here:

If you’d like to help troubleshoot this further, feel free to switch your theme back to Big Brother so I can take a look directly and see what may be going on. Thanks!

I’ve changed to Big Brother now. The tagline and post text that show in Twenty Eleven don’t show in BB. Please take a look and let me know when I can change back.

Btw, how can I make Twenty Eleven/Twelve show the “Recent Posts” box?

    Thanks.

  • I tested Plane with Hebrew settings as well, and was able to see the content of posts, as you can see in this screenshot:

    Blog

If you’d like to troubleshoot Plane as well, just let me know. We could do that after Big Brother.

  • Thanks for setting your site to Big Brother temporarily. Here’s what I see in Firefox 34 on Mac/Mavericks:

I’m starting to wonder if this might be a browser issue. Could you let me know what browser and version you’re using, as well as the operating system? If you’re not sure, visit http://supportdetails.com/

Btw, how can I make Twenty Eleven/Twelve show the “Recent Posts” box?

Recent Posts is a widget that can be added to a widget area in any theme:

Indeed, a browser issue. I use IE11. I logged now into the blog through Chrome and all the text items show. However, the fonts are anything but uniform – also in your test drive [some of which are “ugly”], so perhaps the theme doesn’t manage that aspect consistently.

My institutions uses IE on campus so I stick to it for support reasons.
