Go to https://wordpress.com/theme/syntax and know that not every site has a tagline that will display. The live demo site is here > http://syntaxdemo.wordpress.com/

Hello there @insomniacsleepover,
The Syntax theme does display the tagline. However, it is designed to only display it in the web browser’s page tab. Depending on the length of the tab you may or may not notice it.
To show the tagline on the page itself, under the site title, you would need to add custom CSS. You can add CSS to your site with the Advanced Design Customization feature available with the Premium and Business plans.
Here’s the CSS to make the tagline visible on the page:
.site-description { display: inline; margin: 30px; }You may also consider changing to a different single-column theme like Independent Publisher 2 which already shows the tagline as part of the design. When searching for themes you can use the filter for One Column.
