Tags – Delete – Remove
-
These are the tags you give at the end of a post. I need to remove a couple of tags from an already published post and cannot find a way.
Under the “Manage” editing window, the Tag section only has “Add”. There is no way to delete individual ones that you have already added to a published post. I can’t just delete from the “manage tags” feature as I use same tags on other posts. That would remove the tag from all the other posts and I would have to go back and redo them all. I only want to remove a couple of tags from the one post.
Clues so welcome ….
Thx

Open the post in the editor and delete the tags you don’t want in that post. Click save.

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by “editor”. The way I see my options, there still is not a way to delete individual tags on a published post. I go to Manage, then Manage Posts, then click on the offending post. It opens in what I call the “editor” where you can do anything you want and has the visual/html options, add media and so on also.
There is a separate box at the bottom which as said only has choice to Add tags. Underneath that is the list of tags that have been added but they are not part of any editable document, they are simply listed after you use the “Add”.
It is very different from the Category box underneath the tag box, where there are check boxes so you can just uncheck anything you change your mind about.
I don’t want to use the separate “tag editor” screen which lists all of the tags used in your whole blog, as deleting one there removes that tag from all your other posts too.
Perhaps you could explain in detail how you go about removing just the one?
Thx

Hi, there. We both mean the same thing by “editor.” Once you’ve opened the post in the editor and scrolled down to the list of tags that are being used for that post, you’ll see a little X in a circle by each tag you’re using. Click the X and that will delete the tag. Don’t forget to Save.
-
Well I’ll be, I finally saw, they finally went! Imagine the odd’s of me never running my mouse over one of those x’s before to see it turn red … I don’t see the x’s though, only a little dot but then I am an old lady and probably need new glasses.
Thank you so much for your kind and patient help! -
Would somebody be patient with me too and explain why you can have too many tags?

according to my dashboard I have 87 but when I counted up the surfer I count only 49?? -
Because it’s spam. I’ve seen individual blog posts with over eighty tags. I report those immediately; those people are trawling for readers by attaching tags they think will be popular, regardless of whether or not they actually apply to the post.
Think of it this way: A tag is a request for attention. Using a billion on every post is just not right.
-
yes I understand how infuriatingly people use tags, but I mean tags for all posts not just one, ohhh, a light shines, that limit is for individual posts, wow I wouldn’t dream of using more than or even as much as 12. thanks

Hi,
I have a question. I want to use the same tag for many post. Is there anyway to add them without typing each one every time I add a new post? -
-
Just thought I’d tell you about what happened to me when I deleted all my tags under “Manage Tags.” It deleted my tags from some posts but not all of them (they were still listed there when I went to “Manage Posts.” The tags showed up on my website. BUT when I went back to EDIT the individual posts, there were NO TAGS listed. It was wierd. They show up on the website, they show up in “Manage Posts,” but their gone when I go in to edit the post!
If this happens to you, I found out how to fix it. I go in to edit the post. Under tags, I type anything (I actually typed in “blah”). Then I add it as a tag. Then I delete it. Then I save my post. I then went into “Manage Posts” and voila, it says “No tags.” I look at the website and they really are gone.
Sorry, you still have to do this for every post, so if anyone thinks of a faster way please let me know.

@ gentledove. The discrepancy between what you’re showing for total number of tags and the actual number of tags has to do with if you’ve ever deleted tags. If you delete a tag, it still counts as total # of tags UNTIL you go to Manage—> Tags and actually delete all tags which you’re no longer using. Once you do this, total tag count will match actual tag count on your blog.
