How many tags are optimal?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
The usual reply is no more than ten, but that’s just a rough guideline – there’s no precise optimal number. It’s just that if you use too many tags you risk being excluded from the global pages.
Note that categories and tags are the same thing, so
a) the guideline refers to the sum of tags plus categories per post;
b) you must not use the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category (like you’ve being doing). -

I have a question regarding tags
The tags from my latest post doesn’t show in my tag cloud.
Is there a upperlimit for the amount of tags?Or what is wrong?

Is there a upperlimit for the amount of tags?
Yes, the tag cloud will show the most popular 45 tags.

thx panaghiotisadam and hanni,
panaghiotisadam; another question, what happens when I use the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category ? Am I excluded from the global pages?

“What happens when I use the same word or phrase as both a tag and a category ?”
1. There’s no point doing so, since they are absolutely the same as far as search engines are concerned.
2. Such duplicates will refuse to be edited.
3. You get a permalink problem if you use subcategories. -

All entries of our posts on the wordpress.com global tags pages are ordered in accord with the original time/date stamps at publication. It makes no difference how many times you edit. The post is filed under the original time/date stamp.
After you publish a post click all the categories and tags to check to see if your posts are appearing. If they are not appearing and your blogs privacy setting and contents (mature) and the number of tags you have used are not at issue then contact Staff.

You’re welcome. As I have previously had an unfortunate experience of discovering my blogging tips blog had been marked “mature” (no kidding), I not only check when I am logged into wordpress.com, but I also log out and check to be sure my published posts are appearing on the global tags pages when I’m logged out as well.

Wow, I removed all the tags which where simular to my categories in my latest post. And I am back in the “norwegian” tag cloud, thanks a lot for all tips :)

You’re welcome. The photos in your blog of the dog learning to walk on the fence are great!
