I posted a poem which never showed up in the poems tag area. It showed in the poetry but not poems and it was tagged for that. Later I posted a poem and it did post there. I had both tagged for poems but only one showed. Now this might not seem important in the scheme of things to you but this is what I do so you bet your ass it’s important to me. Could you please get this out there? I tagged it and you can see I did.

Oh, I should tell you I went through a lot of trouble to space that one as precisely as I did so it figures that would be the one that doesn’t show. I wouldn’t want anything to alter that look at all.

this has happened to me again today!! Really, the site is going to be useless to me if I can’t get what I came here to do out there.

  • Unknown's avatar

and again it’s happened!!!!! I really think I should stop wasting my time and effort until I find out what is happening here.

Poetry is one of our more popular tags on WordPress.com. Can you let me know about how long after you publish your post you check the Poetry tag listings? You may need to click back a few pages to see your post.

yes evarlese I have checked back numerous times and have gone into it many pages each time and it doesn’t show. Now some show immediately and some don’t.

This is the reason, the sole reason I’m here. If it’s just a crap shoot as to whether my time and effort are even going to be seen then I can better spend my time and energy I would think. If I got through the effort of carefully formatting a poem just to have it never show where it’s tagged and therefore never be seen then I’m sure you’ll forgive me if I get just a bit angry.

So far whether my poems have shown up or not has been completely random. Some that I’ve tagged more have showed then some I’ve tagged less. I always tag “poem, poems.poetry, creative writing, writing” so it’s not like they’ve not been tagged for where it is I’m looking for them.

Now some have shown up in say Poetry but not in Poems even though both were tagged. This is very irritating. I feel I’m wasting time and effort here.

I would like to know if these can be sent to where it is I’ve tagged them so that my time here hasn’t been a waste.

it seems now about 1 out of every 4 I post are showing up. That is not a good percentage no matter what logic.

For the posts that aren’t appearing in the global tags listings, can you make sure you’re using less than 10 tags?

Well this is the first time, coming to WP, that I’ve ever heard of such a thing and the first time, since being at WP, that I heard of it was just today in the forum after I had labored away most of the other night carefully formatting a particular poem that never got seen as well as the majority of all the other posts I’ve made since being here.

So tell me evarlese, how does one know upon arriving for the first time at WP that they have to scour the website and seek out all these links I’m being given after the fact by forum people and yourself to do a simple post on one of your blogs? How does one know that even a simple thing such as a tag has to be researched and ferreted out from the website before you even begin to use the system? Is the the proper WP engineering for happiness or is it that you have to become an engineer before you can ever hope to attain any form of happiness at WP?

Now that I know of this obscure rule, I will never use more than 4 tags on any post ever again and we’ll see, when they don’t post again, what thing I must have missed in the in-depth systematic research I didn’t take hours doing for my blogging happiness.

This must not be a hard and fast rule though because I have seen others with far more tags than I get posted. So can one edit the posts and eliminate “excessive” tags and hope to have it post or is that not going to happen since it’s already been published? I mean, I don’t want to go through the formatting again and there are some that those that follow my blog have “liked” and I don’t want to delete what they’ve taken the time to read and had the courtesy to like and then I come and delete them to post it again. So are those efforts and all that time just a lost cause or can something still be done to get them to post and engineer a little happiness :)

I have just posted another with 4 tags and it hasn’t shown. I am wasting my time here.

  • If you mean the latest poem, you picked some very popular tags. Results on popular tag pages are randomized, otherwise (out of 31 million blogs) they’d be nothing but posts made in the last minute.

  • Unknown's avatar

are you telling me it’s a crap shoot on WB if my posts are seen or not? what am i doing here?

I just posted another poem with 4 tags only. it has shown up in poetry but not in poems. this has happened multiple times now. I’m not going through all this effort for a crap shoot.

have a look at this. I spent some amount of time and effort on this the other night only to have it not show up anywhere. I have allot more intricate ones than this. I’m not going through all that effort to have it just go nowhere.

    The Write I Dance

  • It’s going somewhere, and people will see it. If you refresh the tag pages enough, you’ll eventually see it.

Your subscribers will see it too, along with anyone who reads the blog directly, and of course there are Google searches and such.

Even on the popular tag pages, you have a fair shot, but we have to extend that same fair shot to 31 million other bloggers.

  • Unknown's avatar

so tell me this. if I go back and go through all my posts and eliminate all the overtagging down to their just less than four on each, would that better enable my chances of them eventually showing up?

I don’t know what you mean by “refreshing the tag pages”

You mean staying at the Poems or Poetry pages and keep refreshing in hopes to one day see it?

  • No, I mean that the global tag listings on those pages are randomized. Re-loading the page will occasionally bring up different posts, and yours may be one of them.

Re-tagging old posts won’t make much of a difference, as they’ll be buried even farther back due to their age.

  • Unknown's avatar

well since I have all the posts heavily tagged as that is what I thought would better able my chances of being seen, should I now go back and go through them all and reduce the badges to say, 4 so that I have a better chance to have them show up on these forums or would that pretty much be a waste of time?

  • I wouldn’t worry about. Given the age of the posts, it’s very unlikely that they would display in the global tag pages.

How does one follow these blogs on Google? Are you merely talking about entering the blog name in a Google search like you do for anything else you wish to find? You would have to know about the blog first to do that and if you already know about the blog you could just enter the url in without the aid of Google. Or are you talking about some service that Google has?

  • I’m talking about folks finding you via Google as opposed to our global tag listings.
