Hi,
Google webmaster tools just told me I have a load of duplicates in my html. Appears the problem is I have many posts with an identical category and tag.I’m looking to delete all my tags for now.
Matt Cutts says better no tags than duplicate tags.
Will deleting by tags affect my SEO?
Did I understand correctly from google WM that one should not have duplicate categories and tags?In brief, will I regret deleting all the tags I’ve been blissfully attaching to posts?
So much to learn!
Thanks,
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes! See here http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/03/15/quick-blog-post-tagging-tips/

No you won’t regret doing things the correct way. You will have some broken links but it’s better to address these issue now and create good SEO habits.

Great, thanks Timethief.
I’ll check that link.I seem to spend a lot of time doing, undoing, redoing, then doing again only a bit differently before I undo again! :)
Sheesh.

Did the look of onecoolsite change a lot? I remember it looking different.
Anyway, on the one hand M Cutts says (again) don’t worry about tags, but the first video recommends them as does this article “Blogging Tips: Tag to Increase Traffic”.
The debate is raging about them on another forum and the folks there are starting to bang on tables and throw things at each other!
Really hard to get a definitive answer.
Methinks it’s a matter of personal preference/opinions.
I think I’ll delete the friggin things but fingers crossed.

Hi I added tags to my post but when i click in my tag o the botton of my post it doesn’t link the tag. I would like to know why.
I was expecting it happens like a hashtag. if i clik a hashtag it bring me to the group where i tagged my post.
Any advice please?
Thanks

@factionem
The only advise I’d presume to give on tags is handle with care.I thought they were quite straight forward but found it’s easy to get into trouble using them.
I seem to have developed severe duplication issues, navigation (and perhaps even issues with broken links) – if I’ve diagnosed right.
Today I went through the painful task of deleting over one third (about 100) of them from my blog.
So do tag with care.
One thing is I think you must avoid giving names to tags that are identical to categories and post titles.

:) Some say it’s the only way to learn.
Somehow the sight feels ‘lighter’ without them – heart wrenching as the removal process was.
