tags for posts

  I am just typing up my first blog and I noticed that on the right hand column where it says post tags the is a link that says Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags. If i choose this does it mean that it will auto choose the tags for me. What if i have’nt got a tag in my side bar?

  No. You will make your own choice. “Most used tags” is only a list of the tags you have used most often. If you have not used any tags yet, there would be noting in the list.

  If you have not used any tags yet, there will be nothing in the list of most used tags.
  Just type in whatever tags you want to use.

  If you make several posts tagged with “house” then “house” will be one of your most used tags. The list is a convenience: you can use it to select tags without having to type the whole word every time.

  To add one thing to 1tess’s excellent points…

  WordPress will not autochoose tags for you. It will “autosuggest,” but you have to click on a tag if you want to apply it to your post.

  Just on that last comment andrew, on my dashboard it shows 3 tags so I assume I have done that right, how do I get those tags attached to my post.

  When you create a post look at the far right hand column. There you will see the “Publish” box. Immediately below it you will see the “Posts Tags” box. Look for this:
  Add new tag

  Separate tags with commas.

  Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags

  select the tags you want and/or type unique tags for the individual posts into the “Add tags” box”.

  You seem to be under the impression that the same 3 tags ought to appear on each post. Well, that may result in defeating the purpose of tagging. Your posts may be assigned to 3 main (broad) categories but tags are to be used to narrow down the index terms so they are unique and relevant identifiers for each specific post.
