Tags not working on first post
-
I’ve just entered my first post on my blog and the two tags I’ve given it do not work. I’ve done everything suggested on Forums – cleared cache, refreshed browser, re-started computer and re-entered post/tags. Help needed!
-
Lesley, from what I’ve understood in the German Forum, there has been a bug for some days. But now everything is back to normal. You can add new and fresh tags to your posts. I just did it and it worked.

It looks like yours is a self-hosted wordpress blog. If so, you should look for help in the WordPress.ORG forums. Our software is different here at wordpress.COM.https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1

@lesley, you need to head over to .ORG as 1tess suggests as that is where self-hosted blogs are supported. The issue has been fixed for us here at the wordpress.COM free hosting service. Search the forums over at wordpress.ORG, and I’m sure you will find an answer. It may involve editing some of the underlying wordpress PHP script files, or possibly someone has posted a “fixed” file that you can upload.
-
If by “not working” you mean your tags are not connecting to the global tag pages, you need to be aware that independently-hosted WP blogs (.org) never connect to these pages; they are a unique feature of WordPress.COM.

I’m really appreciative of all the help I’m being offered especially over the festive season!. I’m actually with wordpress.com (and org.) so I don’t think I can do as you suggest but thank you so much.
-
lesley – it would help volunteers in the forum if you linked your wordpress.COM blog in your user name rather than a site that is not hosted here. We have no way to help you without being able to see what you are doing.

@lesley
Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard –> Users –> Your Profile
In “Website” field and type in the link to your wordpresss.com blog example: http://myblog.wordpress.com -
@lesley
I’m posting again because the recent changes affected the names of the fields I used above. Here’s anupdate.Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard –> Users –> Your Profile. Then scroll down to ‘Primary Blog’ fill in the address of your blog and then click ‘Update Profile’.

http://lesleybricknell.wordpress.com/ and I see on it one post, with one category (Evidence) and two tags (Emily Dickinson, wedding dress).
-
Trying again, first time didn’t “stick. Sorry if it comes through twice.
I see a blog at http://lesleybricknell.wordpress.com/ with one post, one category (Evidence) and two tags (Emily Dickinson, wedding dress).
-
Thanks – I didn’t realize my web site came up. I can’t actually alter or delete ‘Primary blog’ as suggested. My blog address is actually incomplete so here it is although I’ve just noticed justjennifer has got it from the internet (how?) I’ve checked ‘block search engines’ until it’s underway. Not sure what’s happening here!

@lesley-I searched google, so check again that you’re blocking search engines until your launch. :)
But regardless, if I’m seeing the two tags on your post on your blog, then the problem is fixed?
-
Again, please define “do not work.” We can’t help you until we know the nature of the failure.
-
Thanks justjennifer and raincoaster -checked settings (block search engines) and blog still appears on google search. Tags are visible on 1st post but do not link into their topics i.e. ‘Emily Dickinson and ‘wedding dress’. No linking to other blogs with these topics.
-
That’s because you’ve blocked search engines. The tags and categories won’t link into the WordPress.COM tag and category pages until you allow it.
-
justjennifer – you’re absolutely right. Tags link into other blogs by changing settings to allow search engines. Many thanks to you and all other volunteer members for staying with this problem (now solved!). Lesley
