tags removed from posts

Hello,
I am on the free hosting plan on wordpress and am having problems. I’m quite new to wordpress but I’m an advanced HTML/JavaSctipt web designer. I am trying to create functionality on my web page but every time I click ‘Update’, my <script> tags get removed. I have read some answers about this and found out that I have to modify my functions.php or header.php. The problem is that I can’t find it. Is this because I’m on the free hosting plan? Is there a way in which I can use JavaScript on my website? If not, then I would have purchased hosting plan, but I can’t afford it. My parents this it’s a waste of money and to be honest, it’s not a business. I don’t need a professional hosting plan, but what I need it being able to use <script> tags in my posts. Please help.

Neither Javascript nor Iframes can be used on a WordPress.com blog, regardless of what upgrades you have. You will need to purchase paid hosting from some other host and install software from WordPress.org in order to use javascript. Should run you about $120 a year plus domain name.
