tags showing up in custom fields before in 4.3

I just upgraded our site to 4.3, and we have custom fields that rotate images on the home page. With the upgrade, <p> tags keep showing up before the image tag, and it’s adding a weird blank space between the top nav and the image. I’ve tried to change the tags to <div>, but once I hit save, it just reverts back to <p>.
How do I make the <p> tags go away? Thanks for any help!
