Tags – the new system
-
This question is maybe obvious, but after reading that “makes no difference having or having not Tags”, I ask: having posts classified by tags: life, video, etc, does not help you at least to be featured on the “Right Now in Tags” of WordPress.com home page? And even on “News Department”? Thank you!

The actual algorithm that’s used to determine which blogs will be featured in the “departments” is not known to us. If it were known to us then bloggers would be gaming the system.
This is what we do know http://wordpress.com/blog/2007/08/06/categories-and-news-departments/

But my question would be, do those blogs get selected on the basis of categories or tags. Now that they’re different it’s at least fair to tell us that.

It has been stated here at this link
“Is there any advantage to using tags or categories or both?
Not here at WordPress.com and not for any search engines, no.”
…
Have any links to any posts anywhere on my blog been changed by this?
They are all okay. We are intelligently redirecting your old URLs.At that same link it has been likewise stated that tags are not necessary. So if it proves that “tags” are suddenly identified as part of the algorithm for blog selection for “departments” then a “difference” will indeed have been created behind the masking of ambiguous language.

May I go back to the 1st part of my first question? What about the simple ‘Right now in Tags” – it’s tags or categories? ( this is turning to be a funny long question…) thanks again!

I just have a similar question…how does a post get featured in the “News Department”? I mean, I see the same blogs being featured all the time.
