Take down a blog while keeping the url ?

    Hi,

    I am the creator of a blog.

    I have already set it as ‘private’ a long time ago but I noticed it is still showing up in the Google search engine results when searching for the blog name.

    I would like to know if it’s possible for me to take down the site completely but while maintaining ‘the control’ of the URL. In other words, I’d like the website to be completely invisible by Google, but if one day I change my mind and want to use it, I could re-activate it with the same URL.

    I get this message when I try to view your blog:

    You’re probably able to see the blog since you’re logged in, but outside people will only be able to see this landing page.

    Are you trying to eliminate the presence of this landing page, as well?

    Google has three results for //valentenphotography.wordpress.com/ when doing a site:name search – two some sort of Posts and one the Private entry page – sorry but that is about the best you are going to do – even if the site was deleted, there would still be a this has been deleted by the Author page – most people don’t search for a site name, they just go there – there was no content that I saw cached by Google

    If you have another site you are now using, you could buy the site redirect and send whatever small amount of traffic to your new site – that will give search engines a 301 address changed permanently thing – The site redirect is $13.-/yr

    But I am afraid that no matter what you are stuck with some sort of minimum listing for that URL

    No problem, although I see now you checked for google cache too. Sorry I missed that.

    But, maybe that article will help remove the listing as well since Google does say the site is blocked by robots.txt.

    @auxclass > hmm, well I thought about this site redirect option indeed, but since my website is still really low traffic it will be wasted money. Thanks for the information and research.
