Unfortunately, this isn’t the right WordPress forum to help with that problem. You appear to have a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, but this forum is for blogs hosted here on WordPress.com. The two versions are different and have separate forums.
I’m confident you will be able to take your website offline, but you need to address the question to the right forum. Please post your question at the WordPress.org forum: https://wordpress.org/support/

Instead of taking the site off line, you can change the privacy settings. You can check the box that discourages search engines from indexing the site. The Site Visibility setting controls who can view your site, allowing you to make the site private or public. To access this setting, go to My Site → Settings and look for Site Visibility.
After marking your site as private, visitors will see a “Protected Blog” page if they’re not logged into their WordPress.com account when trying to view your site. All viewers added to a private site must have a WordPress.com account — this ensures that only those people you’ve authorized are able to view it.
