Taking over my deleted account’s @-name.

  • Unknown's avatar

Unfortunately I have no proof of ownership, but I have an IP address and I’m pretty sure @[REDACTED] was registered to my deleted email account: ‘[REDACTED]@[REDACTED].[REDACTED]’ which I’ve deleted a looooong time ago.

Since I’ve recently had to log in, which took a while to find out, and thus I was wondering if I could change @[REDACTED] (currently linked to ‘[REDACTED]@[REDACTED].[REDACTED]’) to @[REDACTED](Since I’ve deleted it as I couldn’t change the primary email address which was why I made the new one @[REDACTED].).

Currently it’s bothersome dishing out in case I make a mistake in contact-details.

    hi,

If you created your account with the wrong email address you can change it from your account settings:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

That will then send a new confirmation email to the new address that you can use to verify your account.

  • Hi there,

It appears someone redacted all the information in this thread that we need to possibly be able to help you.

Can you please tell me what site and/or username it is you are trying to access?

  • Unknown's avatar

@kosiew That gives me the error that it already exists, then when you go to login, it’ll prompt you it’s deleted.
    Sorry, that username already exists!

    @kokkieh
Yes, because I was notified that any personal information would turn up publicly.

Isn’t there a WordPress Support email I can “safely” email with? Or is that overshadowed because of this system?

  • Hi there,

Since this is account recovery related, you can contact us via our account recovery form:

    Recover Your Account

or you can reach us via email at passwordhelp@wordpress.com.

    (email redacted)
Nice one, your willingness to help and read the original post really shines through.

Like I said, I don’t hold any of the proof of ownership pieces they request, What I do hold is other pieces of information that are not publicly available for a WP-account and would thus like to attempt with those.

Again: The account I want to nick the @-name from has been deleted, it was also registered to an email address I’ve deleted a long time ago. As a consequence I do not have any of the requested proof of ownership items from your form (https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form).

  • Hi there,

I provided those options because we do not really deal with Account Recovery matters in public – hence, the reason you redacted all of the information I could use to further assist you. Also, since you do not have any proof of ownership, there are some other things I can look into to try and assist account recovery, but it may require divulging personal information.

Therefore, I can possibly help you recover your account, but I will need for you to contact me via one of the above options. If you cannot contact is via the account recovery form, you can through the email I provided as well. passwordhelp@wordpress.com

    Thanks,

  • Let me know if you don’t see the email I provided. It’s not redacted on my end.
