After I upgraded, my ‘coming soon’ site title has something on it that I did not put there. Have no idea where it came from. I did not write it.
It is a black background with white letters dated the day I upgraded. A story with about 15 paragraphs. Where on earth did it come from??? I did not write this!!
So far, help has not helped me with any of my issues. Hoping that will change soon.

Yes, I know there are real people somewhere in there. Thanks for your response, you are not the first person to respond to my “boggle”. Too bad about telephone support, it would be so much easier for me. Oh well, that is the way it goes. I have a lot to learn.
This is what I wrote to the AI and got an answer in less than a minute:
Okay, let’s try this again. I tried to get some help last week and I did get a reply. I was very hopeful to have a phone conversation. The first reply was to tell me that the subject was new and I needed to create a new subject and then send my problem with another help subject, which I did (live phone call help). I then got a reply from someone that sort of understood that I was very confused on my account charges and my purchases. I was then referred to watch more tutorial videos, which I can’t find anything that relates to my issue. I thought I could continue with the thread of my problem (more of an understanding issue, than a problem). Every time I try to continue with the help tech, Machelle Cox, it just gives me a “Post Unavailable- Sorry we can’t display that post right now”. I feel like I am going in circles here. So… Let me start all over. I still would prefer to talk to a person than all this texting.
According to my account, I joined in March of 2023. I was not sure if creating a website was something that I wanted to do, so I choose the Free option that still cost me $19. It looks like the site is Family-History-101.com and a Domain registration Familyhistory101com.wordpress.com. Alright, I was okay with that being a “Newby” and I dug right in and created a website. Yes, I did watch a few tutorial videos on WordPress and Youtube. I put in a lot of hours creating the website and I was learning as I went along. I finally launched the site to see what it would look like (I did not know that the advertisements were going to be at the bottom until after I launched it.
Okay, now let’s fast forward to when I got an email from WordPress telling me I could upgrade and get 30% off a domain. Silly me, I thought that meant I could take the website I had created and integrate the existing work into a website with the domain I puchased for $48. That is when things went out of my comprehension zone. I could not understand the $19 charge for myfamilyhistory101.com domain registration. Then the $48 charge for WordPress.com Personal site plan.
As it turns out, the first “help tech” did explain to me that I purchased a new domain and now I have two. The tech was kind enough to see that I was given a 30% discount that showed up in my email as a refund. That’s cool. The tech also explained with texting that refunds could only be given in the first 48 hours. I suppose that is okay because it was my mistake for not understanding that I was not updating my existing website, I was upgrading my account with a discounted additional website. Silly me.
Now, I still don’t understand why my purchase history shows $19 due in February 9th 2024 and $19 due April 11th 2024 and $48 due April 11th 2024. If I own two websites, why three charges?
Alright, now that I am starting to catch on to things. Is there a way to take all those hours of work I put into creating “familyhistory101com.wordpress.com” and copy it or duplicate it or move it to “myfamilyhistory101.com” ?

Thanks Aleone89 for taking the time to read the above. Now that I understand that phone support is out of the question, I will try to explain my “boogle” the best I can.
The export and import thing did not work as well as I wanted. The export said “successful” and I put the zip file in a folder. I tried the import on my new site that is “coming soon” and it did something that seemed to be a success, but, it did not change the site. Which now brings me to the new issue that “boogles” me.
The “coming soon” site that I paid $48 with the discount shows up on my screen with a home page that I have no idea where it came from, I did not write it or post it or publish it. The page is black background with white letters and is dated May 11th. It appears to be someone writing a story, it has Chapter One and Chapter Two and consist of about 15 paragraphs. I would like to know how that happened????????? I didn’t even do anything with the new site. I haven’t even gone to settings and yet.

I am going to stop here and let you see if you can do anything for me. Last week I had a couple responses from the help line and for some reason they show up in history in the “bell” icon (notifications) and when I click on them, I get a “Post unavailable- sorry we can’t display that post right now”. I am really hoping that you, alcone89, can actually help me make progress in curing my “boogle”.
I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I do believe that persistence will overcome intelligence any day of the week.

$19 will be to renew the domain family-history-101.com
$19 will be to renew the domain myfamilyhistory.com
$48 will be to renew the Personal plan for myfamilyhistory.com
If your content is safely on the second domain you could cancel the renewal of the first domain.

I did not write this, post it, publish it, and I have no idea how this showed up on my site. I guess my question is; how did it get there? It certainly does not have anything to do with what I am doing in creating my website, which has to do with genealogy.
Sorry to be such a novice, I will get better as time goes and I start understanding terminology and the tools used.

I might have given you incorrect information although I was only quoting what a member of staff said in another thread about you having purchased two domains. You have the custom domain myfamilyhistory101.com which has the address myfamilyhistory.wordpress.com in the background. This is your site and just needs launching and away you go. It is really easy to add posts and pages and images. If you have been charged for another domain for $19 I don’t know what name you gave it. You should be able to see it in your dashboard. Perhaps if you aren’t going to use that domain then cancel it before the year is up so it doesn’t get billed to you in 2024.

Ah now I see. You have complicated your life by creating two very very similar sites. As well as myfamilyhistory101.com and its base which is myfamilyhistory101.wordpress.com you have also family-history-101.com which has familyhistory101com.wordpress.com in the background.
Is that second site the one you want to keep and work on?? Hyphens aren’t great though for people to use to find a site.
You’d have been better off with just one free site ending in .wordpress.com I think.

Okay Help Heroes, I think we are making progress. If it was not for magic robot and his link to my help topics, I would still be clicking on the notification bell icon up in the right hand corner expecting it to do something different (definition of insanity). I had to laugh when magic robot told me I was making my life complicated with two similar websites. I should probably enter a new title for the help post, I think we are well past the talking on the phone topics.
Over the past 6 days I have created four different topics and I have made little progress. I think I did a good job of listing the history of how we got here. The email from wordpress to upgrade was an important step when wordpress invited me to upgrade for 30% off.
In one of my help topics, the advice was to tell you my goals. That sounds like a good idea. I basically just want to share my knowledge about genealogy and family history. I don’t think I want to blog or sell anything. I saw that the personal plan that was part of the upgrade would get rid of the advertising (the way I understand it), that sounded good and worth it to me.
Okay, now if you look at https://familyhistory101com.wordpress.com/ you can see I put some effort in learning. Basically, I did not want to start all over again with the https://myfamilyhistory101.com website. I thought I could use the export/import thing and that didn’t work out so well.
I certainly don’t want to launch the website with the personal plan yet. No one has been able to explain how those two “posts” got in the personal plan website, I didn’t put them there. At this point, I know I can just edit and get rid of them, but, I would love to know how they got there in the first place. If I didn’t post them, then who did?

The main issue I see now is that you paid for the domain family-history-101.com but anyone typing that is directed to https://familyhistory101com.wordpress.com/ because that free site doesn’t have a paid plan. So there wasn’t much gained in paying $19 for that particular custom domain. Also it is so very similar to domains owned by others that vary by just not having hyphens in their addresses.
