  I would like to actually speak with someone (either via email, live chat, or phone) at WordPress before upgrading or purchasing a site – is this at all feasibly possible?

  WordPress.com doesn’t have phone support. One can only get access to email and live chat support once they upgrade to the paid plans of WordPress.com.
