tasteless advertising
-
This blog celebrates a great period in British journalism. An essential element are the tributes and obituaries to distinguished colleagues who have died. During the past month I’ve created a new tribute section for one writer who has died and interspersed throughout this page are EIGHT small tasteless ads showing bulging buttocks and breasts and gurning faces, often only one paragraph apart from each other. Their message is lost on me and several give no clear what it is they are advertising!
Aren’t so many ads too intrusive? And can’t they be better tailored to the content so has not to cause so much offence?

As you say at the top of your site, the ads are generated by the advertising software. Different people in different parts of the planet see differing ads. I see ads for AO and Ryanair on your most recent blog post. All ads should have a little “report this ad” button bottom right if you think a particular ad is in bad taste.

Thanks themagicrobot. Spookily all the ads have currently disappeared! But they vary each time you load the site and if I have to police it on a daily basis in order to “report” any offenders it’s going to consume my life.

Hello staartmees. Upgtrading is no solution when blogs are being offered free of charge. As a site of historic interest, this one should routinely live on for ever on the internet, so long as it doesn’t require a fee to be paid annually for its domain.

We run ads on free sites to keep them free: https://wordpress.com/support/no-ads/
If you see an offensive ad, please do report it via the “Report This Ad” link below the ad, or by submitting the form at https://wordpress.com/support/about-these-ads/
To remove ads, simply purchase any paid plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Hello macmanx – You don’t get it either do you macmanx? See previous my replies. I cannot police every tasteless and offensive ad on my blogs all day every day. Why is WP posting buttocks and busts at all? Geddit?
