Tax exempt clothing in certain states

  Hi,
  I recently found out that clothing is tax exempt is a few states. How do I only take off tax on a t-shirt that I have in my shop? I tried putting a code I found for it and it did take the tax off, but it also took the tax off of any items I added in the shopping cart with it, when I tested it. Please advise. Thank you!
