Tax Exemption

My name is Adam Collado. I’m a School Technology Specialist for the Urban Assembly School for Music and Art, a High School located in Brooklyn, New York. We wish to purchase a Business Hosting Plan from WordPress.com and want to apply for tax-exemption status. However, the purchase will be done by a partner of the school, Center for Supportive Schools, Inc. I’ve sent an email to WordPress support that included the NY Exempt Purchase Certificate form, but the followup email I received directed me to the forum, so I’m not sure how to move forward with purchasing the plan. I also had several questions that didn’t receive a response.

My question is for this purchase, can it be done through the current account I have setup on WordPress.com ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), or would our local representative from Center for Supportive Schools (Marlena Carreras) need to create a new account? Or are there any details I need to change for the account I created?

    Thanks for your time!

  • Hi there,

I was able to find the ST-119 document you sent us recently, and have set your account as tax-exempt in our system.

My question is for this purchase, can it be done through the current account I have setup on WordPress.com ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), or would our local representative from Center for Supportive Schools (Marlena Carreras) need to create a new account? Or are there any details I need to change for the account I created?

We do not have a requirement on our end, so the purchase can be under any account you wish. Once the purchase is made a receipt is generated and added to your account so that you can report the expense.

Please note that others will not be able to manage this upgrade since it is under your account only. Upgrades can be transferred in the event you were to leave the organization, but the tax exempt status cannot be transferred. Instead the person receiving the upgrades on transfer can submit necessary documentation again and we will happily mark the account as exempt.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
