Technical problem with dashboard

  • Unknown's avatar

    I can’t blog anymore…

I wanted to publish a new post this morning. Bloging bilingually, I need to switch to Hebrew in order to start and write the new post. I did that and all seemed fine. But going back to the dashboard something weird happened. The sidebar remained on the left and on the right, where it should have moved to – there was a gray area, hiding that part of the dashboard.
When I managed to start a new post anyway, the whole screen was a mess and I couldn’t write the post. What is wrong?

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for getting back to me :-)
    My blog is :

    lweaveswords.wordpress.com

    I hope that’s what you meant…

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for that confirmation.

I’ve taken a look and tried to replicate the issue, but to no avail. Just to check, are these the clicks being made?

    Account > Settings > Change interface to Hebrew > Site > Pages/posts > Edit > back to Site (WordPress.com).

If you’re able to detail some of the steps being made, that would be most useful in diagnosing this issue.

    Many thanks in advance.

You are half right. It is Account > Settings > Change interface to Hebrew > as you said but from there I go back to the dashboard at

    https://lweaveswords.wordpress.com/wp-admin/

as I understand it, only from there I have the access to all posts plus the option to start a new post using the classic editor. And that is where the problem is – the dashboard.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for the information, I’ve followed these steps and I am unable to again replicate this issue.

Are you able to tell me which browser is in use and if clearing the browser cache doesn’t solve the issue:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Can you also tell me if there are any browser extensions in use too please?

    Many thanks in advance.

I am sorry, I had to go out. Now I cleared the cache as best I could and it is still the same (would you want a print-screen?).
My whole computer is old. I use Windows XP still (no money to upgrade) and the browser is FF 52.9.0. I think I tried to upgrade that once and if I’m not mistaken it didn’t go well.

  • Thank you for providing that information! Rather than try and upgrade FF, which sounds like it might not have gone well last time, would you consider trying this from the Google Chrome web browser?

If so, you can try to install that from here: https://www.google.com/chrome/

If you are able to install the browser successfully, your next steps will be to log into your WordPress.com via that browser, then attempt a new blog post through the dashboard.

Let us know how far you get. Hopefully we’re getting closer to helping you get this sorted out. :)

    Hi :-)

My apologies for the delay in my answer. On email I read something else.

I switched to Firefox because of a very bad experience with the Chrome. This too I don’t remember anymore what was the problem (I too am old with memory problems) but I still don’t want to switch back to it…

  • Is there any other browser you’re willing to switch to, just temporarily? We’re only asking this to determine if your browser could be the culprit here.

Does clearing the cache helps? You can find here more information on how to clear the cache depending on your browser:

    https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache.

Also, yes, if this keeps happening, a print screen would be great. You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.

I cleared the cache twice (half before I appealed to you, just the history; one complete with cookies after I was asked and another history later, though there were no cookies, so that’s another half). And no, it made no difference.

As for another browser, I know only these two that are free – FF and Google’s. So sorry, still no on google.

When I offered a print-screen I was thinking I could attach a file to a message here. I’m sorry that I don’t know how to use (nor would I register to) an un-known site. Though I’m willing to trust you (still) I’m not a trusting woman in general.

Meantime I found a way to post around this problem but it allows me only a certain kind of posting, not other kinds…

I’m sorry, I did not mention that this does not affect just the dashboard, but the classic editor as well. There’s no way to work with it when part of it is hidden by the gray area.

  • Hello there,

There’s no way to work with it when part of it is hidden by the gray area.

It’s interesting that this has been mentioned – is this the issue you’re facing?

    And

    Many thanks in advance.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, that exactly.
So you turned my dash to Hebrew? It was very mysterious just now, to check my blog :-D
As I said, it shows on the editor too. And that makes it un-workable in terms of save draft and publish.

Thank you for picking up on it :-)

  • Hello there,

Ah ok – thank you for that confirmation, and thank you for helping us get to the bottom of the issue.

This is actually a known issue, reported within the last 7 days we’re currently working on.

If using WP Admin view is a priority, you may wish to hold off using a RTL language just for the time being.

    Many thanks again.

No, the thanks are to you! And I do thank you very much. Knowing it will be ok in the future is fine with me. Like I mentioned, for now I can work around it and delay other posts till later.
    So thanks again :-)
