Technical Problem with WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

I keep having to sign in to WordPress every time I post a comment on someone’s blog, even though I’m already signed in to my account. Is this a technical issue that can be fixed? Thank you for getting back to me about this issue.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • What are the URLs of some of the sites you’re trying to comment on?

Hello Macmanx. It happened all last Monday through Wednesday, but I didn’t get on WordPress again until today, and it’s still happening. I’ll put three of the web links where it happened, below. I noticed that these three are all paid for WordPress blogs. I’ve never had to sign into WordPress for them before, as they are blogs I follow regularly. I’m not sure if it’s happening on any of the free WordPress blogs like my own, I’ll have to let you know when I comment on one.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hi there,

What browser are you using? Does your browser settings allow third-party cookies, and are you using any anti-tracking add-ons in the browser?

What you’re describing happens if something is blocking the cookies we use to detect that you are logged into your WordPress.com account. You don’t experience it on free sites, as those sites are on WordPress.com subdomains (example.wordpress.com), so your browser doesn’t mind the login tracking cookie as your browser sees you’re still “on” WordPress.com.

But the moment you go to a site on a custom domain, the WordPress.com cookie has a different domain than the site you’re on, causing your browser to see it as a third-party tracking cookie. If you block third party cookies in your browser or use a browser add-on that blocks tracking cookies, we can’t detect that you’re already logged in, and you will be required to log in again on each new site.

If you’re not using any add-ons like that, and you’re not blocking third party cookies in your browser settings, please check if this also happens if you log into a completely different browser.

    Hello,

I don’t use any ad blocks. I don’t use anti-tracking and I don’t use any third party cookies. I’m not even familiar with how to use those, so I’ve never installed them. Could something like that have been installed without my knowledge, like an automatic update or something? I’m not tech savvy, so that’s why I ask.

The browser I use is Microsoft Edge. I’ve been using it for years to comment on these same blogs and never had a problem before.

I can try using Firefox and see if I have this same problem. But, my default browser is always Microsoft Edge, and I’d prefer not to have to switch back and forth. Especially since this was never an issue before.

I will get back to this thread when I get time later to try commenting on blogs through Firefox.

    Thank you.

Hello – I don’t know if anyone has been working on this issue, but I thought I’d let you know that as of tonight, Oct. 22, the comment boxes are working again on Microsoft Edge for me. Thank you for responding.

  • Hi there,

That’s good news. Can you please let us know what version of Edge you’re using. You can use this site to find it out:

Hi – I went to the link you provided to find what version of Edge and it says that I am using Edge 18. Let me know if you need anymore info to ensure we keep this working properly. Thank you for your help.

Hi Again – I just had the sign in thing happen on a blog I tried to comment on, except this time it told me it couldn’t post my comment. Here is the link.

Okay, I just tried posting a comment again on that link I shared in my previous post here, and it let me post my comment without having to re-sign in. Maybe it just needed to correct itself? Thanks for working with me.
