Technical Problems With Notifications
-
This question is for both of my sites. They are: CRYSTAL’S PHOTO-BLOGGING SITE and WELCOME TO CRYSTAL’S SITE(ORIGINALLY COUNTRY LIVING). My problem is this, In the upper right hand corner you’ll see a bell icon, I’m unable to like, reply and even read some of my notifications. For the first time ever, messages disappeared and it said all caught up. What’s going on? What am I doing wrong? If anything.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

tried clearing my browser cache. Still having problems. can’t reply, follow, like and etc… I’m on a Dell laptop using Google chrome as my browser. Not sure what you want when you say what kind of device do I use to connect to the internet. I have a modem that also connects to our phone and tv. What do you want and what’s wrong?

@daisymae2017, I have a thread here currently with a similar problem with the Notifications/bell icon dropdown. I too am using a Dell laptop (Windows 7, SP1) but a different browser (Firefox 53.0.2)
Don’t know if you are experiencing the same problem as I am, but if you want to look at my thread it is at

@daisymae2017, I just came up with a weird workaround that does allow my Notifications/bell icon dropdown to display properly. I have no idea if it’s supposed to work like that, but I just posted it at the end of the thread that I linked above.
If you try this workaround, does your bell icon dropdown then work properly? I’m curious to know. :-)

(sorry about the double-post, it stalled and then somehow posted twice; mod/staff, please remove the duplicate post and also this one, thanks)

It worked briefly but when I went back and tried it, it didn’t work. I’ve changed my browser to Internet explorer. I’m puzzled and stumped at why it’s not working.

Understand that you can follow any site hosted anywhere in the WordPress.COM Reader but only sites hosted by wordpress.COM will provide the functions you are referring to. I suggest you I go directly to the sites and do your commenting on the posts where they are actually published and see if that works for you.

This is exactly what has been happening with my blog. So frustrating. I can SEE the comments made to me, but cannot respond. I thank you for both for posting this query. My own query wasn’t worded properly and well, it hasn’t been responded to! I have cleared caches and so on. No change yet in the ‘bell’ listings.
-
Timethief, THAT is the most horrible thing in the world. To go to each site and answer and chat. The whole point of the notifications is to be able to easily communicate. Yes, you can open up new tabs to communicate with each blog. Yes, I can look at my comments, go to manage my blogs, look for the blog I am following, open a tab for that blog, find the particular post the comments are on, scroll to the comments, leave a comment, and then go to the next one. Very cumbersome. VERY.
-
I too have cleared caches. Still problems. I can see the drop down but that’s it. I go between Internet Explorer and Google Chrome but run Chrome most of the time as I’m running now. If no one knows about the browser Chrome, I will put this as staff and modlook.

it appears this is still unresolved. Another odd thing I have discovered, is when I go to each blog to try to comment, some of the letters won’t work! Crazy!! It is sort of funny to try to type without an ‘r’ or an ‘l’ or a few of the other letters. As you can see, they work in this part of WP, just not on the responses part. I keep logging off, clearing everything, turning off the laptop, and nothing changes.

@thechatsworthlady regarding your issue on the closed thread: can you let me know what page you typically start with?
@krisegbert and @daisymae2017 can you also let me know what page you are starting on? I have not been able to duplicate this here.
-
krisegbert, I had the that problem too. I fixed it quickly though. What I did was check to see if your filter keys are on. I had to reset my filter key settings and after I did that, all letters worked. I would suggest if it’s still happening, go to your control panel then ease of access. In the box provided you have 2 boxes. I have the box beside scan checked then there is a list of things you can go to, go to Make the keyboard easier to use then that should take to a page with a whole list of choices you can do. I’m on a laptop so I only have Turn on Toggle Keys when you press CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK or SCROLL LOCK checked and every key is working for me. Just try checking Filter Key Settings. Let me know if this helps.
