technical questions

I have specific requirements for my company sight and I need to know if wordpress can do these things. I currently use Wix and they are not able to support these requirements.

Can you elaborate. If a volunteer can’t help here then a member of staff surely will.

I would love to talk to a staff member, but I am unaware of how since all “contact us” links lead me to the public forums. Previous employees from my company were doing thing they were not suppose to be doing, because of this we now are required to have certain safety features of our site and I need to know if wordpress can help me with this. Wix cannot yet. Basically, I have a lot of questions.

Until you have an upgraded site here at WordPress.com (when you’d have access to Livechat support with staff) this is the place to ask questions.

We have a parts shop and many of these parts can be used for thing they are not intended to be used for. We need to be able to approve access to our online shop but we also need to have a “Continue as guest” button that shows our parts without access to price or the ability to purchase (so customers can see if we have what they need). Wix cannot do this. We also need to require more information for initial sign in so that I am able to actually research each potential member before approval. Wix only requires an email address, this is not enough information to approve, especially if they give a gmail account instead of a company email address.

As you are talking about eCommerce then probably WooCommerce support would be the best place to start. This forum is geared towards free sites hosted on WordPress.com where eCommerce isn’t an issue. Note that you can purchase a Business or eCommerce plan and have a 30 day refund window (but 48 hours in the case of domains).

I’ve tagged this thread to ask if a member of staff could advise you further.

That was also a concern. I did not want to purchase a plan only to find out they aren’t capable of our requirements. it would be great to talk to someone and get more of my questions answered an a potential customer. We have two companies that I would like to move from wix.

  • Hi –

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Basically, I have a lot of questions.

No problem :) We can answer those and also determine if WordPress.com is a good fit for the site(s). Please list out your questions and requirements.

  • Hi @esmithconspec, WordPress by itself would not do that. You would need a plugin.

And for plugins you can either use our managed service, or host your own installation:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

As for which plugins to use: basically you need a shop with an option that allows only members to see prices and actually make purchases, correct? I would imagine there’s a WooCommerce extension that could do that.

Would you be willing to reach out to their sales team here to see if they have one they can recommend? I’ve asked as well so I’ll know for the future, but you can also ask them other questions if needed:
