Technical support request – GIF's stopped workin on my blog after many tries.
-
The problem: Recently I noticed that GIF’s stopped working entirely on one of my blogs. I want to preface by saying that I’ve been using WordPress for many years, both self-hosted and hosted here on wordpress.com. So I am familiar with how it works, and I make sure to save my post after I try different things to get the gif’s to work.
The post that I have a .gif on is this one: https://aurorakreativ.wordpress.com/2020/04/27/sims-4-interactive-animated-curtain-blinds-cc.
The .gif on that post where it’s now either showing a broken image icon or just an empty space, used to work just fine. It’s recently when I revisited the blog that I noticed it had stopped working.
What I’ve tried: I talked to support yesterday through some sort of a chat I believe it was from the back-end of the blog. She didn’t know what the problem was, she suggested that I try a few things like re-adding the GIF to a new fresh image block and also try using the embed block. I tried both and nothing worked. I re-uploaded the GIF with a new file-name, added it to the post and it too didn’t work. I also tried using a different browser (tried Firefox and Opera) which didn’t work.
In the end we just concluded that GIF’s works on her site/test environment when she tested, which makes me believe there’s some sort of technical issue relating to my blog specifically. Therefore I’m looking for technical support to help me out to see if there some sort of server error or something that prevents the image from being served to the blog.
Mind you, the GIF is showing in the media section of the back-end as a thumbnail. But I cannot get it to load when I click “edit” to inspect it closer.
The GIF wont load in the post editor either when I use the image block. But using the embed block will make it load in editor, but not in front end.I can view it by using the image URL address directly (copy pasting the URL into a new tab).
It’s a live site that has been up for a while and I don’t want to play around with trying different themes. It’s a free blog so I have no access to code.
Here’s a a screenshot of how the post with the broken GIF appears front end:

Here’s a screenshot of code inspection of the GIF on the post using the browser developer tools:

It seems like the image address is added correctly to the code, but wont load up.Here’s the URL to the GIF itself: https://aurorakreativ.files.wordpress.com/2022/06/sims4-animated-blinds-cc-new-version.gif
Would appreciate some help since this seems to be out of my control.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
It looks like you’re using the Embed block to add that .gif – the Embed block is for embedding items from other websites (like YouTube).
Can you try inserting it using the Image block instead and see if that helps?
Let us know if you still have trouble!

Hello, thank you for your response. :)
I was just contacted via email by a happiness engineer who says they are aware of a bug and they’re working on it. She gave me a workaround by using an image block and instead of picking the image from the media browser or uploading a new image to the block, that I instead copy the link of the image from the media section and add it to the block instead (insert from URL). That finally worked.
So for anyone else coming across the same issue reading this, I’d recommend trying that.I want to specify too that, the image block has always been working for me with GIFS and that is what I’ve been using all along until it stopped working and I was suggested by a support rep. to try the embed block and see if it would work, which is why the post was using the embed block and I hadn’t until now changed it back to an image block.
Thanks.
