TED.com shortcode embedding not working
-
I’m trying desperately to embed the TED.com shortcode for videos on my blog (Theme: 2011; wordpress.com) like I do every semester – but suddenly this doesn’t work – all I get is the active link with the actual URL fully visible in the post :-( I’ve tried different ones, but nothing works. Any suggestions?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

From the support doc:
1. Go to any Talk page. Hit the red button that says </>. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/ted-talks/
Well, that symbol isn’t appearing on either of the videos you linked to above. I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

No, the </> symbol is there – but using the shortcode doesn’t work. But thanks for your help. Maybe your tag will bring in the cavalry ;-)

I don’t see </> at all using Firefox 33.0.
I tried using IE11 and I can see ithttp://www.ted.com/talks/alexis_ohanian_how_to_make_a_splash_in_social_media
[ted id=714]http://www.ted.com/talks/jinsop_lee_design_for_all_5_senses
[ted id=1806]I have both videos up and running in my test blog now.

Please let Sraff know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/ -
I’m using FF 33.0.3, but on Mac OS 10.9.4 – my students (it’s a group blog) use a mixture of Macs and Windows systems.

@mzvetina – For whatever reason, I’m having trouble using the shortcode as well. Still digging into why it’s converting into a link. I did find two workarounds though:
- Embed the video using subtitles, which adds
lang=ento the shortcode. Instructions for doing that are here above step #3: - Instead of using the shortcode, copy and paste the URL of the TED talk and paste it on its own line in the Text Editor. For example, you could copy and paste this:
http://www.ted.com/talks/alexis_ohanian_how_to_make_a_splash_in_social_media
Can you give either of those a try?
- Embed the video using subtitles, which adds
-
Wow – both of your workarounds worked – that is weird – but thanks! But it would be good to find out what on earth is causing the shortcode to be made inactive…
