Teddycanblog.com : How can I export my content from wordpress.com?

We are moving to another server. We go most of the content but all featured images are missing. Help please..

This is a simple thing to do, to give us our images so that we can make our blog working again without missing images. How bad will you feel if your hosting company does not give you your images back? Please, do the right thing, and send us our images, and let’s be cool again..

When you import an XML file you are prompted . The images are attachments and if you say yes to including them then this won’t be an issue, unless, of course, they are on different servers than the servers the site you exported from is on.

all featured images are missing
The featured images are found only in some themes and as one cannot export a theme they will not be exported as featured images.

Thank you for your reply.. here is a part of the .xml file I got from the export (There was no prompt for image attachment). You can see images are pulled from wordpress.com server. However, they were missing from the start, hence new server could not pull them..

@teddycan, if you use the regular export process, and import into another WordPress site, the featured images should come in and be specified properly. They will work unless your theme does not support them.
However, it is possible your new host timed out while the images were still importing. Can you confirm whether any images were imported, or whether most were but just a few are missing?

@teddycan got it. If your files weren’t online before and they are now, you might try clearing the posts out of the new site (deleting them and emptying the trash) then importing them again. Or if there aren’t too many images to fix, you can just copy each one and re-set the featured images manually. Good luck!
