There is no phone support. See here for all the support options when you have wordpress.COM technical support issues see https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/
Those who have a paid upgrade for a wordpress.COM site can use the “Contact Support” form, http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ where they will receive a choice of having staff answer your question publicly or privately.
The best WordPress.COM contact form to use now for Staff assistance is:
http://wordpress.com/help/contact
Live chat will be available there if we have Happiness Engineers available to chat. When they are not available using that link results in posting to this peer support forum. https://en.support.wordpress.com/live-chat/re: direct email support
Also note, that you can email WordPress.COM Staff at:
help@wordpress.comAlternatively, you can type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

None of the above makes any sense to me.
I have spent days trying to get support from WordPress. This must be the most unhelpful company (aside from Dragon Naturally Speaking). I cant even send an email without paying for an upgrade! Disgraceful! -
Thanks. First off, the address you used, which is the only one I can use to log into this forum, belongs to a Blog that I haven’t used for ages. I recently had someone set up a website for me which uses WordPress. I have a few questions about that site I need to get answers for but I cant get into the forum with the correct ID. I have seen it written that it is not possible to delete a WordPress account so I tried changing the email address associated with rickyjd but this has made no difference. So my first quesyion is how do I get to the staring blocks i.e. establish an identity that is associated with my new website not an old blog?

What is the address of the new website?
If it is a new site on WordPressdotcom and someone else registered and set it up for you, then unless they transferred the ownership of the site to you, they are the site owner.

That is interesting. Should I get them to transfer ownership? -

Hi again, thanks for providing a link to the site you need help with, which is using the standalone WP software and is not hosted here on WordPressdotcom.
WordPressdotcom and standalone WP are separate entities. Confusing I know, but you can learn more about that here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
For future assistance with your self-hosted site, you’ll want to seek help over at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page and at https://wordpress.org/support/ If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums, you can register one on that page. You can also get in touch with the person who set up the site for you and/or your web hosting service.
Hope that helps clarify things and best wishes.

Interesting! Thanks. Where does that leave the ownership issue? Is this irrelevant for the .Org sites?
-
The ownership information I gave above is relevant for sites registered on and hosted by WordPressdotcom.

OK thanks for your help. It gets more complex by the day but at least you have given me some direction!
