Template

I have low vision and cannot see the screen against the blinding, white background of most templates. My solution has been to simply adjust the browser setting to a pitch black background. I’ve noticed, too, that this is ideal for photo blogs because it makes the images pop off the page. I want my readers to see my blog in the same way, but there are no templates that can do this. Some may have a dark header, sidebar or footer, but the body is still blinding white. Is there any way to adjust the CSS code to change the body from white to black with a free blog?

Access to Custom CSS is only available on Premium and higher plans.

However, you could browse our selection of free themes that has the “custom colors” feature – most of those themes will allow you to have more control over the colors without needing to use CSS.

    I hope that helps!

Thank you. I have tried a few of those templates but found that the color option, in those that I sampled, only changed the header, footer or sidebar. The body remained a blinding white — like the Twenty-Fourteen template which would be perfect if it was all black.

I just looked a moment ago and noticed a theme I hadn’t seen before — Quadrat — but it is designed for podcasts not photos. It appears to be a totally black background.

Toujours is my current theme and I really like the design features with the scrolling header … and footer which is black, by the way. If only the body could be black it would be perfect.

Also, the Live Demo is not showing what my blog would look like but only a sample blog.

While Quadrat is designed for podcasts, it can also be used for other content – so I’d give it a try!

And yes, our theme demos use their own sample content – so you wouldn’t be able to see what your site would look in the demo screen.

If you really like the Toujours theme, it might be worth it to you to upgrade to Premium so you can make the body black through CSS.

You do get access to a lot of other features you might enjoy as well (like more media storage which would be helpful if you have a lot of photos), so give it a review and if you do decide to upgrade, we’ll be happy to help advise what CSS you’d need to use.
