Template is blank

Please help. I’m trying to set up a blogsite, but no matter what changes I make to the template, it remains a blank white space.

I have made sure to click the ‘Update’ or ‘Save changes’ button after updating my site design.

In addition, at the page where it says ‘You haven’t written anything yet, but that’s easy for you to do later! Here’s your chance to get your site,’ I clicked on ‘Continue reading’ – and the page I was taken too said: ‘Oops! That page can’t be found. It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?’

I also tried posting a test blog, where I used the title ‘(Title),’ and in the body just ‘Text … Text … Text.’ When I posted that, again there was only a blank white background.

I have cleared my browser’s cookies and cache, along with restarting the browser (the problem occurs in both Firefox and Chrome). Or try it on a different browser.

Finally, I have also tried logging in and out of my account.

To reiterate: I have no template features at my homepage or in a blog-post. Just a blank white background. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Which site is this for? I see you have a few on your account. Is it https://ajderxsen.wordpress.com/ perhaps? I see this site is using the Exford theme, which looks like this: https://wordpress.com/theme/exford

You are trying to set up your site to look like the demo there? Thanks for the additional info!

Hello. Sorry for the late reply, and thank you for your response. Yes, it’s https://ajderxsen.wordpress.com/ .

  • I do see all of your content there. The background is white, yes, but you can customize that at https://ajderxsen.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

And, if you want your site to look like the theme’s demo, you’ll need to follow the steps at https://wordpress.com/theme/exford

Thanks for the reply, but no – there’s no option to change the homepage image at the “customize” link you gave (and which link I’ve gone to countless times). Unless it’s in a drop-down that I’m somehow not seeing.

On a secondary site I created (because of my frustration with the primary site), I’m seeing “Featured Image,” and in that area I have my new pic uploaded – but in the main display it never changes to the new pic. I just don’t know what’s going on here.

I am thoroughly frustrated with WordPress these days, which once upon a time (years ago) had seemed so easy.

Yes, I’m trying to mimic the layout of the Exford site. I can’t make any changes whatsoever, other than textual stuff.

See, here at this draft version it has “Avalon Bay” at the top, but in my drop-down edit fields I have that removed, because I’m intending to create a new homepage image that has the site title in the image itself. The “Site Title” field in the editing menu is BLANK – yet there are the words “Avalon Bay” at the top of the homepage, same as before. Why?????????????

  • Hi there,

Thanks for clarifying. To explain, when you first set up your site it is set as as a “blog” by default, with your blog posts showing on the homepage.

These are not directly editable in the same way as a traditional homepage is. Instead you will want to follow these steps to set up the Exford homepage template on your site. See the video at this link: https://d.pr/v/FNgErg

unlike the blog-style homepage, you can edit the Exford homepage template by clicking on the text and images directly (once you have selected it) and customize it that way.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

FINALLY – thank you!!!!!!!! This is what I was after. You are the FIRST person who has clarified it for me, so again – thank you.

I had two sites in the works, but the second one was only a new attempt at achieving the same goal. So my original site now has this as the homepage: https://ajderxsen.wordpress.com/

You’re not seeing any title because I’m going to reedit the opening pic so that the site name and a slogan of some kind is part of the image itself.

Every time a visitor comes to my site, I want them to see that layout, and scroll down for blog entries. Is there also a way to have a featured article always at the top just below the image?

  • Hi there,

Is there also a way to have a featured article always at the top just below the image?

Yes, you can use the Blog Posts blog:

    Blog Posts Block

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
