Templates Problem

I am confused about how I am supposed to use templates. I am trying to add a page with a different template, but I am really confused about why it isn’t letting me use the different template

To start, you’ll find all your templates under Appearance > Editor > Templates. I noticed in there that you are creating custom templates for multiple pages. However, the idea with templates is for them to be used as a more generic model of a page, a post, or a group of them.
It seems like you’re trying to create templates for all your pages but I don’t believe this is necessary. Can you please clarify your main goals here? Do you plan to design all your pages differently? If yes, sometimes all you need is to create a simple template for all pages (with only header and footer), and then add the actual content directly to the pages you’ll create under My Site > Pages.
