Temporarily close site
-
Is there a way to “close” the site, i e while doing some theme updates and a visitor will get message:
“Please come back later, we are updating”
-
We do not have such a notice here. You can create a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ with your own notice on it but I wouldn’t. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ I just go ahead and do what must be done.

Oh frap! If you are referring to http://resesidan.se/wp/ then it’s not hosted by WordPress.COM. What I posted does not apply. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
We provide support only for blogs being hosted WordPress.COM and not for WordPress.ORG software installs. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate, have different log-ins and run different versions of some themes with same names. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

You can use a theme like “http://wordpress.org/themes/wpchimp-countdown”, For more info, Contact me or ask for help on http://wordpress.org/support .
-
No, you cannot. Please don’t answer questions in the WordPress.com forum if you don’t know how the WordPress.COM software works. For instance: it does not allow plugins or external themes.

This theme is for WordPress.org, I only made it simpler for him because I used it before.
Am I prohibited from answering something I know about WordPress.org here? (I really ask, It is not Mockery)
-
Actually, yes, you are. If someone has a WordPress.org blog, you send them to WordPress.org for answers. If someone has a WordPress.com blog, you give them answers they can implement on their blog, you don’t give them answers which apply to types of blogs they do not have.

@3bdelra7man262, the reason for not posting WordPress.org answers here is that it can be confusing for users who read these forums later and expect the answers will apply to them too. So, it’s preferable to send WordPress.org questions to the WordPress.org forums. Sometimes, I try to answer what I can or answer if it applies to both WordPress.com and WordPress.org and then I post a note asking them to please post future questions in the WordPress.org forums.
We would love for everyone to always be welcoming here.
If you would like to help at the WordPress.org forums too, you can! You need to make a separate account there, which you can do at https://wordpress.org/support/register.php if you’re interested.
