temporary upgrade to premium

    I need to upgrade to premium service on my blog for about a year (maybe a bit more), specifically so that there are no ads and I can post video. After that time, I’d like to downgrade back to completely free service, no upgrades.

    Can I just continue to use the xxx.wordpress.com domain name since I know I’m going to be downgrading and don’t want to pay for a new domain after I downgrade back to free service?

    I assume I will have to remove the video and make sure that I’m not over the 3GB space limit for the free service. Yes?

    Thanks!

    Hi @caselib,

    To give a short answer to all your questions: YES, you very well can. :)

    As long as you are subscribed to the premium plan, you will be able to use all the features offered by it. But as soon as you unsubscribe you will be able to revert to your old xx.wordpress.com domain. And you are right, the restrictions on space will be applicable once you downgrade.

    Thanks, that’s so helpful!

    Just to clarify on the domain question – when I upgrade to premium, do I

      have

    to change to a new domain name? I assume the old domain will refer to the new when I upgrade, and then back to the old when I downgrade, but it just seems easier to keep it the same throughout. Am I missing out on something if I just leave it as is?

    @caselib,

    You will get a custom domain – e.g. Caselib.com with your premium upgrade, as a part of your premium upgrade. I’m not sure whether you can use a xx.wordpress.com domain with your free plan instead of a custom domain, but it should be possible (theoretically).

    However, I would recommend you to get a custom domain for yourself as it would make your site looks professional and it comes as part of your package. If you want to keep your custom domain once your premium upgrade expires (e.g caselib.com) you may do so by paying a smaller fee ($13/year).
