After reviewing the Terms of Service, I realize that I must terminate my involvement with WordPress, since I do not have the financial capacity to provide the required indemnification.

1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:

I have created a throwaway e-mail address, but the change shows as “pending” and I have received no e-mail at the throwaway address (which is temporarily real) asking me to confirm the change. How long should this take to be finalized?

I have done so. The only e-mail which has appeared in the inbox of the throwaway account is from the Hotmail team.
I am anxious to complete this process, since WordPress is keeping me from using my primary e-mail account when posting to WordPress-based blog sites, such as KnowledgeProblem.

Is the @nc.rr.com e-mail address your temporary address? because that’s the one that’s set now.

NO. The MSN e-mail which includes the username shown above is the throwayay. The nc.rr.com is my primary.

Account still shows e-mail address as the nc.rr.com address, with a change to the msn.com address pending, as it has for more than a week.. That is what I want to change to the throwaway e-mail address, which I will the throw away. Please change the account e-mail address to the msn.com address

I suggest you read Article 19 of the terms of service, which require the user to agree to indemnify and hold harmless … That is a contractual obligation with significant potential financial consequences.
I have discontinued use of every blog site which has such requirements in its Terms of Service. It is my assessment that, since I do not have the financial resources to meet the potential obligation to which I would have to agree, I would be committing fraud by agreeing to do so.

It’s only in there as a last-resort protection for us.
The indemnity would only come into play in the event of a lawsuit arising out of a user’s violation of our terms of service; the provision gives us the ability to recover any costs we might incur dealing with the lawsuit, though in practice we haven’t ever enforced this against a user.

That’s fine and dandy, but I still could not cover your costs. Therefore, I cannot agree to do so. If you think I am being overly cautious, you might want to talk to you favorite lawyer about the issue. I enjoy blog exchanges, but will not put my financial future at risk for the pleasure. There are still numerous blogs which do not require that users “indemnify, hold harmless and defend”. I’ll stick with them.

Actually raincoaster is correct when it comes to other blogging platforms as well. They have the clauses in their Terms of Service as well.

Every host should have the hold harmless – blogging platform or not – one reason is if you goof and do something illegal and they end up in court you pay –
