Terms & Conditions Question? I am so confused

    I am planning on running a series on my blog with some Handmade Christmas gift ideas featuring links to various Etsy shops and possibly any coupon/discount codes they will be running. At the very beginning when I first thought about doing this series, I decided to contact WordPress because I wanted to make sure I wouldn’t be violating any terms or conditions by doing this. I’ve talked to several staff through WordPress and I am so confused because a couple of them tell me that I wouldn’t be violating any rules, then another tells me that posting any kind of coupon/discount code could be a violation because it would be considered sending traffic exclusively to Etsy and they also told me that I need to be careful that all posts for the series aren’t just Etsy driven/focused (meaning these posts could look like my goal is to just drive traffic to Etsy).

    The point of this series that I’m doing is to raise awareness about the benefits of buying/shopping and making handmade gifts.

    Now I’m trying to think of some ways to make my series look less Etsy driven and more handmade gift driven. If I were to post some DIY handmade gift tutorials within these posts that will have links to the featured Etsy shops, would that help to make the series look less Etsy driven?

    I am just so confused when it comes to terms and conditions! I just don’t want to get into trouble.

    Hi there!

    I just reviewed the various conversations you’ve had with us. It looks like you’ve talked to Dustin (dustinhartzler) in a private thread, and you’ve chatted with Daniel and Pam on live chat. All of them have confirmed that this is fine.

    Just to clarify here, we do prohibit sites that are created for the purpose of what is called “link mining”. Link mining is when someone creates a site that’s sole purpose is to drive traffic to another site through links.

    Its pretty clear this is not what you intend to do though. As long as the affiliate or coupon codes are relevant to your post’s content, you’re more than welcome to include them. (I do want to note that we do not allow image-based advertising. So make sure you use a text link. :)
