Terms of use

I wanted to send this to WordPress.com directly but can’t find an email address….. so this seems to be the only way… but I do need a definitive answer from wordpress.

I am a start-up business and I am about to set up two websites/blogs hosted on your site and will be taking some upgrades such as own domain and no-ads. I posted something on the forum yesterday and someone suggested that I couldn’t do it so I need to clarify with you before I set up the site and purchase the upgrades etc.

One of the sites will focus on marketing some events I am running. These events have sponsors and so I would want to include their logos and a description of their business with a link to their site. So having read your terms, as I understand this, this does not violate your terms as they are not sponsoring the website or blog, they are sponsoring the event. I will also be asking people to book their places via Eventbrite and will include a link to the Eventbrite page so they can book – again I don’t see that this should be a problem within your terms of use but just wanted to check.

Please could you clarify as soon as possible as I need to crack on!

    thanks

Paid or sponsored post content is prohibited.

I just saw this post and I was planning on creating a website with a blog here (one of two), one of which is for an events business which will have sponsors… the sponsors are not sponsoring the website or the blog just the events so I would be putting their logo and a description of their business with a link to their website on the sponsor page. Is that ok? This would be entirely created by me not adverts embedded by sponsors or other companies. I would also be putting links to enable people to book onto the events which would link through to an Eventbrite site where they can book and pay (this would take them external to the wordpress site. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/uploading-videos-and-links-for-sponsors?replies=7#post-909372

I have flagged this thread for Staff attention. Please be patient while waiting for a resply.

  • Timethief is correct. If you are paid commercially by the sponsors listed on your blog, regardless of what the money goes to, it would be against our terms of service.

Thank you but I read that page re. advertising and couldn’t see that I was doing anything wrong as it’s not the kind of advertising described there. Also the blog or website posts are not being sponsored, it is the event which takes place in real life at a venue. I’m struggling to see the actual wording in the terms of service that indicates this scenario breaks this. There will be no actual adverts either – just company description, logo etc that I physically post myself (nothing automated).

I also assumed it was ok as I had seen this site doing it on most of their pages (using the theme I was planning to use too!) and this is no different to what I plan to do.

  • Ah, what you see at those blogs is fine.

If that’s what you’re doing, you have nothing to worry about.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding!
