terms of use

Hi, I am fairly inexperienced. I tried adding a user agreement page to my site. I don’t want it to be a blog format. Just a page without date/name etc. Also I want to be able to create a link from front page that I can click to get to the user agreement page. Can I do that?
Question number 2: I will be the only person writing on the blog, can I not have the author’s name on all the post? Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. To create a page, go to Pages ->Add New in the dashboard and add the content you want. A Page will appear in your menu automatically, not on your home page, and will not display the date. See here how to create pages: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

Question number 2: I will be the only person writing on the blog, can I not have the author’s name on all the post?

This is controlled by your theme. Some themes display the author name, some don’t. The only way to prevent your theme from showing it is by adding custom CSS code to your theme, but that requires the $99 a year premium upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

If you haven’t yet, you might want to take a look at the tutorial page. It covers posts and pages, adding links, and more: http://learn.wordpress.com/

    Hi there,

#1 you have to create page instead of post. Go to WP Admin > Pages > Add new and post your User Agreement page there. Hit Publish.

Then Appearance > Menus. Give your menu a name, then click Create Menu. In Settings, customize your menu.

#2 it is possible to edit CSS to hide author’s name, however that requires the Premium upgrade.

    Hope that it helps.

Thank you for your responses. How about creating a link from the main page? Is it covered in the tutorial? (sorry, I am rushing right now, will take a look at the tutorial tonight) I would like to create a link from the front page so someone can click from the main page to get to the terms of use page. TIA!

  • As I said, if you publish a page it as automatically added to your menu, so you don’t really need another link, but you can also add a link in any post of page by highlighting the text you want to link from and clicking the link icon in the toolbar. This is covered in the tutorial, but here’s the relevant support doc with the instructions you need: https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

Are there other themes that allow more flexibility in customizing without upgrade?

  • There are over 360 themes and they have a large variety of features and customisation options, yes. Certain changes, like hiding an element the theme displays (like the author byline), can only be done through CSS. But there are, for example, themes that don’t display the author (sorry, I don’t have a list for you). There are themes with featured colour palettes that allow you to change the color scheme without an upgrade, but other themes you must have the upgrade to change colors, and so on.

I suggest you browse the theme gallery for a theme you like the look of, and then click on the Details tab for that theme to see the theme demo and a complete list of the features it has. If you’re looking for a specific feature you can also use the filtered search option of the theme gallery.

Of if you’re looking for a specific feature, tell me and I might be able to point you in the right direction.

  • And of course the premium themes generally have more customisation options than free themes, but that’s why people are willing to pay for them.
