Terrible ads suddenly appearing – what is going on?
-
Yesterday I noticed ads suddenly appearing at the bottom of some of my posts. I’ve never seen them before.
Huge ugly block ads for “Want to live and work in the USA?”.
I read that WordPress is sometimes known to insert small ads, but I never imagined anything like this. It’s crass and loud, with vividly coloured graphics and shamelessly promotes an issue I absolutely don’t endorse. I could handle a small ad, a banner promoting others to join WordPress for example, or an unobtrusive text ad. But not this.
I know there’s an option to pay for such ads not to appear, but I’m just wondering – are large offensively ugly block ads normal for WordPress blogs? Have I just been lucky not to have been infected with them before?
Thanks in advance for comments.

I’m sorry but the only information we Volunteers can provide about the advertising WordPress.com runs on our blogs is found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ and here > No Ads Upgrade > http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/
WordPress.com has been running ads on our blogs since 2006 and as they do not display to us when we are logged into WordPress.com we really have no idea what on visitors are seeing or how frequently the ads are displayed.
If you wish you can contact Staff. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox and type in “advertising” at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Is there a “report ad” link (or something similar) next to the ad? Have you tried that?

I also just noticed the ads…perhaps a way to get bloggers to purchase premium blog sites?
It’s especially anoying because I promote good health, but have poor choices as my ads. -
perhaps a way to get bloggers to purchase premium blog sites?
There are no premium sites here unless you mean VIP hosted blogs. http://vip.wordpress.com/
All upgrades are for specific features and uses and purchasing an upgrade amounts to nothing more than purchasing a specific feature and/or use. http://en.support.wordpress.com/topic/upgrades/
To remove all advertising from your blog see here > No Ads Upgrade > http://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/ -
Thanks for the comments everyone.
Ah, I hadn’t noticed it was only when you’re not logged in to your own blog that the ads appear – that explains one reason why I’m only seeing them now.
I realise now another reason I’ve never seen them is whenever I’ve looked at the blog while not logged in it has always been on a computer with ad-blocking extensions installed on the browser (like Adblock Plus for example).
Obviously they can’t tailor the ads to each individual blog, but I can see it must be especially annoying for some blogs more than others. sisterearthorganics, to have ads for unhealthy things on a health-oriented blog must be really frustrating.
It certainly does encourage us to buy upgrades for our blogs. Or to recommend Adblock to more people!
Thanks again for your comments everyone.
