Terse display

    When you do a search on a blog, you get a moderately terse display: title and a few lines. How about a button to get a totally terse display: titles only, single spaced. Clicking a title brings up the full entry. This would make it easier to look over a large number of entries.

    Thanks for listening.

    Interesting idea. if you haven’t done so yet, feedback on monday.

    I’m fairly sure that the search display is decided by the theme designer. Could be wrong..

    That sounds right Mark. Its a much neglected area in many themes.

    Considering that most theme designers did their themes expecting them to be edited by the end user to fit their needs, I think it’s more of an issue of being overlooked.

    @leisureguy
    I like the idea. Thanks for presenting it.

    I just had an idea of how to trigger it. Have a widget that looks like the Search widget except that it is labeled “Date list”. The entry box collects a date, and the result is a list of posts on or before that date, in the usual order. These are presented as the moderately terse display or the terse display, depending on whether the “Terse” checkbox under the date entry box is checked.

    I’ll send feedback, but I can’t until tomorrow: feedback is closed on the weekends. But I thought that this ideas forum was the place to post ideas. What determines whether something goes into feedback or the forum? Just curious.

    All ideas get posted here for bloggers to respond to and dialog on but unless and until they are submitted as a feedback they do not receive consideration for inclusion by staff. So for every “idea” posted a corresponding feedback is required to give rise to creation of a tracking ticket.

    Mark has also requested that every feedback being sent in contain all required information and reasoning as opposed to just a link to a forum thread. Including a link and only scanty feedback information simply makes things more difficult and more time consumptive for him as well as slowing the process down.

    I’m glad I knew the answer. :)
