Test blog media files mostly unattached! D;

    Why should that be? I created a test blog and imported all material to it from my main blog. Then in testing some of the themes I discovered that those with galleries (e.g. Mixfolio, Fontfolio) were not showing my imported images. I went to Media Files and found that most of the images are unattached. Why so, when it seems a clean import would automatically “attach” all files, since they all look OK in my main blog’s Media files…?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    It’s possible that your images were not properly “attached” as in inserted into a post in such a way that WordPress could recreate the relationship when you imported the content into a new blog.

    Could you provide links to a couple of posts where the images didn’t work properly, so I can see if that’s the case?

    Also, what are you trying to accomplish by exporting/importing your content? Are you trying to create a backup or are you planning to export your site?

    The blog where I discovered this problem is a test blog and yes, it’s a backup designed only for trying out new themes, etc. 100 percent of my images on my working blog are attached correctly, which is why I was really puzzled when I found that almost all became UN-attached when the content was successfully copied over to the backup/testing site. Since it was set as Private, I don’t know whether you engineers can get in there or not, but here is the homepage link which at a glance shows what is wrong…

    In the Media Files I count only 23 images that are attached

    8-O

    If you try to do an export of a private site, your images will not be included in the subsequent import, as the export process does not include the actual image files but a link to them. The import process then grabs the images from the original site and uploads them at that time.

    Try setting your site to public for the duration of the export/import and try the process again, and see if that works for you. If not, please let me know.

    Yes, thanks…and I will let you know what happens…good or bad. Haven’t gotten time to do that yet…but it really would be nice to have one of those working test blogs for trying out themes and widgets and things :)
