Test email before posting?
-
Is there a way to see what my blog post email will look like BEFORE it goes out to my followers? I recently created a photography post (My Year in Travel) that looked fine in “Preview” but when it arrived by email, some of the images did not display. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There currently isn’t a way to test how a new post will be displayed in an email prior to sending it out. The only thing that triggers an email is a new post being published. I thought you could use the “Request Feedback” option, but this just sends a link to the individual, not a preview of the post within the email.
Can you let me know what about your images looked incorrect? Perhaps we can fix that going forward so you will not have an issue!

Thanks for your help and for getting back to me. The set of five pictures under the heading “The Palisades, New Jersey” (in “My Year in Travel” email) showed up as weird little boxes with the image of a document in each. If you click on them individually, it will take you to the correct image, but it’s as if they didn’t load correctly or something. (I can send you a screen shot, if that’s possible).
All the other images were fine.

Hi!
Did you recently change your Reading settings to “Summary” here?
https://beingawesomeisadrag.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php
When the Reading settings are set to “Summary” instead of full-text, only the intro of the blog post shows up through email. So, I’m not actually seeing any of the images when I email the post to myself right now. Would you mind if I flipped this to “Full Text” for a short time to test this out?
It does look like the first image under the heading you mention (Hawk, The Palisades, New Jersey) is missing:

Did you potentially delete that file after adding it to your post?
To remove the broken image icon and have the actual picture appear, you’ll need to go back in and re-add the picture to your post.

Hi, yes, I did recently change the Reading settings to “summary,” just AFTER this happened…someone had suggested that might be a better option if WordPress has a limit on photos that appear in an email (? – not sure if that’s true).
Yes, you can definitely change the settings to “full text” for testing…
I didn’t delete anything after posting, but none of the images under “The Palisades” showed up in the email. So does that mean I should go in and re-add all those 5 pictures?
I’ll let you test the email out first and see what you find…
Thanks

Hi!
I apologize – posts shared through the email sharing button are shared as summaries regardless of what you have in your Reading settings. This way, if someone shares a post with another person through email, the other person gets directed back to your site so they could read more about you if they wanted.
I’m only missing one image (Hawk, The Palisades, New Jersey). It looks like that item may have been accidentally deleted from your media library after you published the post. You should just need to go in and re-add that one.
As far as the email goes, I think the summary setting is going to be best for posts where you have this many images. There are a lot of things that limit how the images appear including the receiver’s internet connection. I’m guessing what may have happened is that your email timed out while downloading all of the images. Otherwise, if they were in the post, they should have been in the email.
If you have any other posts like this with quite a few pictures, you may want to stick to summary to ensure that the email downloads correctly regardless of the receiver’s internet connection. Other posts with fewer images should be fine for full text!

Thanks for your response.
The “hawk” image IS in my Media Library and it also appears in my blog post, as it has all along.
Would I need to delete it from the Media Library and then upload/link it again? …I wasn’t clear on this part. Thanks.

Hi there!
It looks like for some reason the URL of the images in your post is different than the URL of the actual images in your library. For instance, the first image after “Hawk, The Palisades, New Jersey” is trying to grab the image at this URL:
However, when I look in your Media Library, this is the URL I see:
You don’t need to delete these image from your library, you need to remove the broken links from your posts. Just open the post in the editor and select the broken images. Remove them and add the images you want using the Add Media button.
Hope that clears this up. Let me know if I can help further! :)
