test-only emails please

  I have my blog set to text email notifications because my MUA (mail client) blocks rich text / HTML (web page) emails.

  For the most part, your WP feature works well – but my export notifications come in a null text / HTML attachment format anyway.

  How do I get real (RFC-compliant) text-only email for *everything*?

  NB: My mail provider assigns spam scores to noncompliant emails.

  PS: I’m not leaving, I just use export for backup. :)

  Hi there. The setting you changed on the account settings page only affects the notification emails for blogs you follow via the Reader.

  Export notification emails are generated by a completely different set of programming. I checked with our developers, and it’s not possible to change that on a per-account basis to send out plain text emails instead.

  Hi Kokkieh. Thanks for clearing the limitations of that one up, but it doesn’t (unfortunately) solve my problem.

  I use a ‘secure’ webmail site doesn’t display HTML emails in WordPress’ system-wide(?) email format:

  – RFC-compliant header (envelope)

  – Non-compliant null text message (attachment)

  – HTML mail/’web page’ (attachment)

  IIRC, this configuration isn’t fully RFC-compliant because the text section is zero-length. If WP wants to make its emails compatible with everyone, it should be emitting hybrid text/HTML mails — a text message with your HTML attachment.

  My regular email provider (correctly) assigns a spam score to null-text messages (assuming they’re non-compliant so they must be spam).

  My webmail won’t display textless-HTML-only mails, and downloading the HTML attachment to load it into a web browser isn’t very productive. :(

  If WordPress’ system emails used standard text or standard hybrid (text-HTML) emails, it would make a of of people’s lives simpler.
