Testimonials

[…] brackets with dots comes midway through every testimonials. URL https://benmayobema.wordpress.com/testimonial/
However, it comes correctly a testimonial I named XXX and the entire wording is just X’s right to the end of the page. This XXX testimonials was purely a test. I have tried everything like recapturing all testimonials but to no avail. I need your urgent help please.
Thanks

Hi Matteo,
I’m sorry you’re going through this. Your testimonials so far look great with the images and all you’ve done to get them looking good. Hopefully, we can get this issue fixed.
Notice that the testimonial of “HASNA KHAN” does not have the […] part. I wonder what’s different between Hasna Khan and your test “xxxxxxx” post with the others.
As a first step, open any of the Testimonials that have the […] in them. Select “HTML” in the editor. Do you see anything written there other than the testimonial text? Do you see the “[…]”? If you see either of those, try deleting them and then Publish your updates. What happens then?
Best,
Jesse(note to moderators: all of these posts were marked as Duplicate, so I’m replying to the oldest one)

Hi Matteo,
Two things are producing this result:
1. At Customize > Content Options > Blog Display, you’ve evidently chosen the option “Post excerpt.”
2. The point where the text is cut off in an excerpt is determined by a word count. I think the cutoff point is about 55 words. Since your run of X’s has no spaces between them, that content is counted as one word.
-
The “Post excerpt” setting affects not only posts but also archive pages, and the testimonials page is an archives page. See the note at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display which says,
Choose between a full post or an excerpt for the blog and archive pages.
You may be able get around this by creating a custom testimonials page, using testimonials shortcode.
-
I don’t mind, especially since your answer has better specifics than mine! I recognized that was supposed to be a post excerpt, but I was thrown off because they’re not links. Why would it not link to the expanded testimonial?
Matteo, let us know what you find out!
-
After rethinking this, it’s not clear to me why the “Post excerpt” setting at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display affects the testimonials archive page. Yes, it’s an archive page, but the testimonials are not posts.
-
I guess the setting applies to all archives pages, which includes post archives: category, tag, author, date (year, month, date), portfolio project archives, the testimonial archive page, etc., as well as search results.

Hi all
Thanks so much to all of you.
Please add a little note that if you choose excerpt then it affects testimonials as well.
Thanks again and again

I’ve noted it in my mind (though not in official documentation), @benmayobema. I’m happy this fixed the issue for you!
