testing a site / trial

  Hi

  I am considering to create a directory for a certain industry, listing our industry related customers (more than 10 000). For a first test phase we’d like to test with a free site, and it if works well, upgrade to premium. An interesting template for the first test could be https://graygrids.com/item/jobboard-bootstrap-html-job-portal-template/ It seems however that even for the free version we have to sign up for a premium WordPress? Or is there a free trial where we could test for some weeks?

  Hi Jay,

  The link you provided goes to a page advertising a non-WordPress.com theme. Third-party or custom themes may only be uploaded by members with the WordPress.com Business Plan. See the WordPress.com Plans page.

  Regardless of the plan (Free, Personal, Premium, Business), WordPress.com themes may be chosen from the WordPress.com Themes Showcase. Click the “Free” tab at the top right to display only the free themes.

  There is no limit to the length of time that a free WordPress.com theme may be applied to a site. You may upgrade at any time.

  Thank you musicdoc1, much appreciated.

  I hoped there might be a free trial :) and couldn’t find a free WordPress theme with a directory, that’s why I searched teh web for free 3rd party themes.

  I’m not sure what you mean by a “directory.” Would it be a list of links to the 10,000+ customers?

  You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar at right here to call for staff attention at any time. Staff might be better able to suggest an appropriate free theme, or guide you in choosing an alternative course of action if no suitable free theme is available.

  FWIW I know that Directory sites and Classified sites are possible on a WordPress.ORG installs on paid hosting. Please see: Moving to self hosted WordPress https://move.wordpress.com

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.
