Testing speed of plugin

    A developer I work with was asked whether the plugin they custom created for a client would slow down the site. (Good question.)

    Is there a way for someone to test a custom-created plugin to make sure it doesn’t slow down/hurt an existing site?

    Hi there,

    The only way to test this is to install the plugin on a site and see what effect it has. This is really the type of thing the developer should be doing as part of the development cycle, before they hand over the completed plugin to the client. However, the specific hosting infrastructure, theme, and other plugins installed on a site can also sometimes cause unforeseen conflicts, so there’s some testing you can only do by installing the plugin on the actual production website.

    I see you’re on our Business Plan. All our Business Plan sites have real-time backups built in, so if you were to install the plugin and it negatively affects your site, you can just roll back to the last backup before you added it to undo the changes.
