  What’s the best way to work on a new website on WordPress while the domain name is running on the old website?

  You could create and set up a new Website.

  Here are some tips on getting that free site set up:

  There are two options for domain setup.
  Own domain outside and map or transfer here. More on adding domain.

  Note: You can import content from your old website to the new website.
